Chapter 1

Basically means “one sent”
His relationship to others except in terms of his being sent to all with the gospel........his calling is due to no personal merit of his own
No problems with the Church or with Ephesus
All of the other Pauline letters are dealing with a specific problem, there do not appear to be any doctrinal issues, etc. that Paul is dealing with.
This reads more like a sermon, or a prayer
Indicates this letter for for a wider audience, not just the Church in Ephesus
In fact, there is contradictory evidence as to whether or not this letter was even originally titled to the Church in Ephesus. In Acts, it discusses how Paul actually lived in Ephesus for 3 years, so it is odd that he was writing this letter with no reference to personal relationships he made there.
Also debate as to whether or not Paul was the author, 88% of the book can be found in other Pauline letters (good summary)
Most likely written just after he wrote Colossians
