The World needs to know that the Church is a source of reconciliation
They need to know that we have what they need
They need to know that this place is a refuge for those looking for reconciliation
That this place is not a courtroom where people are proclaimed guilty
But a place where guilt is balanced by a plan of reconciliation.

18 While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.” 19 So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.
20 And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.
23 When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, 24 He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. 25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went out into all that land.
27 When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”
28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.” 31 But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.
32 As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. 33 And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!”
34 But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.”

35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
PRAY THAT GOD WOULD RESTORE UNTO US A CHILD LIKE FAITH THAT IS ABLE TO HEAL OUR DEEPEST WOUNDS & THE DEADLY DISEASES IN OUR LIVES.

As Jesus was teaching and preaching
A Ruler came to Jesus and worshiped him
What kind of Ruler was he?
Most believe that He was an Official from one of the local Synagogues
As he came to Jesus, it says that he fell down and worshipped him.
Proskyneo: “Prosquenow”
To bow down in obeisance
To prostrate oneself
To bow down and pay homage to
It was while this ruler worshipped Jesus, that he simultaneously proclaimed his need
His Daughter had just died
Because of the Jewish custom, he had little time before she would be buried
So this man, leaves his family
Leaves those who are in mourning
In faith that what He had heard about Jesus was actually true
He comes to Jesus and asks two things:
1. Come to my home
2. Place your hand on her
Because in doing these things she will be healed.
How many of us ask questions knowing that God is able?
Knowing that He is Good
Knowing that He wants to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think?
So what did Jesus do?
Jesus
He aligned himself with his calling
He remembered why He had come to this earth
He remembered what was prophesied about him
The things he would do for the people He came to save
But before He could respond to this mans need . . .
But on his way to the Ruler’s home, something happened . . .
A woman who had been bleeding for about 12 years approached Jesus
WHO WAS THIS WOMAN?
This woman would not only be considered a sinner in light of her uncleanness
This woman would not only be considered a sinner for the lack of Health in her life
But she would also be cut off from any type of spiritual activity
According to
She would not be able to approach those who are clean
She would not be able to approach those who are clean
Every bed she’d lay on
Every seat she’d sit on
Would be considered unclean.
Would need to be ceremonially cleansed
Would remind her that she needed a savior
This woman could not rest without being reminded of her lack.
On a spiritual level, she would not be able to worship or celebrate her God in any way.
Socially, what would be done if this unclean woman was making her way through the crowd to get to Jesus
Wouldn’t the crowd be yelling unclean?
Wouldn’t some legalists be looking to stone her?
Wouldn’t their be a strong commotion?
Wouldn’t
However, in her lack, in her need, in her spiritual depravity, she knew her God was bigger than her isolation.
She musters up the courage to
Approach Jesus
To come near despite what people were saying of her
To put her life on the line for the sake of her health
For a woman to approach a man in such a way would be seen as provocative
For a woman to put the Spiritual Rhythms of the crowd at stake was deadly
But because of the reputation of Jesus
Because of what Jesus was known for
Because of His Nature
She wasn’t going to let anything hinder her faith in who Jesus was.
She fully believed
That all she needed to do to be made well
Her faith told her that:
Would be to touch His garment
If I only would be able to touch His garment
I know I would be made well
She was in such desperation that she was willing to put her life on the line in hopes that Jesus was who He said He was.
But in order for that to happen, she had to put her life on the line.
As soon as Jesus felt his healing power leave his body
He turned around and looked right at her
Instead of condemning her
Instead of proclaiming her unclean
Instead of reminding her of her spiritual and physical state
He calls her daughter
He encourages her to be of good cheer
Tharsei
To have courage
To allow the Love of God for her to remove all fear.
Then Jesus does the unthinkable
He confirms to her that it was her faith that made her well.
From that point of contact
From that interaction
This woman was made well
Made Well in the Greek is Sozo
To deliver or to Save
NOW BACK TO THE MATTER AT HAND, THE RULER’S DAUGHTER WHO WAS AS GOOD AS DEAD
23 When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, 24 He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. 25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went out into all that land.
Matthew 9:23-
When Jesus came into the rulers home it was an interesting scene
The Family of the 12 year old daughter had already started the mourning process
They had already hired the worship band and the professional mourners
In the Mishnah, we read in Ketuub 4:4 that “Even the poorest in Israel should hire not less than two flutes and one wailing woman”
However, we aren’t dealing with a poor family
We are dealing with a leader, and official of a Synagogue.
So, Jesus asked those who were their in vain to depart
For it was unnecessary for them to be there since the girls was not dead but sleeping.
As the professional flute players and mourners mocked and ridiculed him
He asked them to leave
Went into the room
Took the girl by the hand
And the Girl arose
Imagine what it would be like if your job was to mourn with a family that had experienced a loss
You get to your job site and begin to put in work
Along comes Jesus, and all of a sudden there is no reason for your to be there
What would you think?
How would you respond?
I believe this report wasn’t just for the ruler, his family, or the synagogue he worked at
It was for those who made money off of death
Those who saw death as a way to make money
Who were now being challenged by a Savior who was raising the dead?
Their whole identity was challenged
Everything they stood for was challenged
AS JESUS DEPARTED FROM THE RULER’S HOME
27 When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”
28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.” 31 But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.
Matthew 9:27-
Two blind men followed Him
Crying out in supplication and declaration
Proclaiming Jesus as the Son of David
Stating that He had the ability to grant them something that they didn’t deserve
MERCY!
One thing to note about the Miracle of Sight is that it was intrinsically Messianic
, , and 42:7 all prophesy of the Messiah bringing sight to the blind
Since they knew what Messiah was capable of
They followed closely
Finally, as Jesus entered the house
Jesus confronts their faith
“Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
To which the blind men agreed
Jesus responds by touching their eyes saying
“According to your faith let it be to you”
And it was in this moment that their eyes were opened.
Even when Jesus warned them not to say anything
These little sinners couldn’t help it.
They went about all that country and spread the news of what Jesus had done.
32 As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. 33 And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!”
34 But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.”
Matthew 32-34
Again, as they were going out
They brought to Jesus a man that was mute and demon possessed
In His Genius,
Jesus first casts out the demon
Knowing this was the cause for the muteness of the man
After casting out the demon
The Mute man spoke
The Multitudes that were following said
“It was never seen like this in Israel”
We have never seen anything like this
This is incredible
However there was another crowd who saw the same thing
They saw the same exact event take place
But their response was different
The Pharisees said:
He casts out demons by the ruler of demons
He is using the Power of Satan to cast out Satan’s colleagues
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
My question to you is, how are you approaching Jesus today?
Are we admitting our need?
Are we coming to Him knowing that He is able to deliver and to save?
Are we approaching Him knowing His Nature?
Or are we fearful that He might just do what no one else can do in our lives?
Take Courage
Today, your faith has made you well
He is able
He is willing
But you must own it.
Even the poorest in Israel should hire not less than two flutes and one wailing woman
