The Steps of a Good Man

Text: Psalm 37:23-25

Introduction:  The Bible let's us know in Paul's writing to the Romans */Christians "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach, except they be sent?

God's gift to the church is the Pastor, even though the church selected him, it was God, who chose him.

  In I Timothy chapter 3, Paul gives the qualifications of a PreacherPastor.  Paul says anyone who desires to be a PreacherPastor, desires a good work.

  In Ephesians chapter 4, God gave to the church, "Pastors and Teachers", for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

Transition:  Psalm 37 is called a "Psalm of Wisdom", it is written by David.  In this Psalm, David uses a series of proverbial expressions to exhort the righteous to trust in the Lord, who will cause them to inherit the land.

  David tells the righteous not to fret about the wicked, which will be rooted out from the earth.  He encourages the righteous to "trust in the Lord", and He will rescue them from evil.  Even though the wicked seem to prosper, they will ultimately be destroyed.

  Our text tonight, declares that the steps of "Good Man" are;

I. Ordered by God [vs. 23]

   a. His steps is directed by the Lord.

  Proverbs 16:9 declare, "A man's heart devised his way: but the Lord directed his steps."

Even though a righteous person may suffer a temporary setback, he will not be permanently defeated.steps—way, or, “course of life”; as ordered by God, failures will not be permanent.

II. Guarded by the Lord [24-25]

   a. They are upheld by the Lord [vs. 24]

   b. They will never be forsaken [vs. 25]
