What have we received from the Lord?
What have we received from the Lord?
Let’s look at some things that God has said that He has given us.
The verse in our handout says that He has given us grace upon grace.

16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
That seems to me to be the place to start.
We have received grace upon grace.
In fact, everything that we have ever received from Him is by his abundant grace.
We don’t deserve anything.
We live, breath, move, eat, sleep, …by the grace of God.
Yet, scripture tells us of some specific things we have received once coming to Christ.

17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

Through Jesus, we receive the abundance of grace and..
the free gift of righteousness.

12 “In this connection I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests.
13 At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around me and those who journeyed with me.
14 And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
15 And I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.
16 But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you,
17 delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles—to whom I am sending you
18 to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

We have received the forgiveness of sins.
Our eyes were opened, we turned from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God and…we were forgiven!
Jesus also told Saul, that his message would give us a place among those who are sanctified.
So, we received forgiveness and have been placed among all of the others who have received forgiveness…we belong because of what He did for us.

12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”
14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.

We have received many wonderful blessings, graces from God.
Some lay before us!
In moments of need.

16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.

God will bless us for building his kingdom.
He will not forget the folks that we have invested our lives into, nor our investment into them.

25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
We look forward to wearing a victor’s crown.
We receive from Him a crown, not of power but, of glory.
It is as though he wants to show His angles and possibly the lost, the devil and his demons what He has done through weak man.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

So, we have received many things in Christ.
We are promised things for our times of need.
We look forward to receiving more things at the coming of Christ.
So, let us be thankful and live out our lives in appreciation for what we have and what we will receive.

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

Let us live like we really appreciate what He has done and will do for us…Let us give like we have received.
