Being prepared to patiently look towards God for his guidance and accepting the timing he proposes. Waiting on God can lead to an atmosphere of expectation and confidence in God and a realisation of the unreliability of one’s own judgment.

Reasons for waiting on God
for his providence; for his salvation; for his blessings
Jeremiah 14:22 ESV
Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are you not he, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for you do all these things.
Waiting on Christ

Types of delay: relational, professional, spiritual

Our God is a promise-keeping God of perfectly-timed delay

Ask me “what is the key to humor?” Timing.
Delay of creation, the delay of man, the delay of Eve, the delay of the rainbow, the delay of Abraham and Sarah, the delay of Joseph sold into slavery, the delay of Moses coming off the mountain, the delay between Malachi and Matthew (400 years) the delay between Jesus’ birth, death, resurrection, and second coming. COVENANTS
To a God who has all the time in the universe, his plans are never delayed. But for us, time is something in precious short supply.
Sin is what fallen sinners do in times of delay. Wait is what saved-filled sinners do in times of delay.

The benefits of waiting on God

It leads to hope

See also ; ;

It leads to trust

Isaiah 8:17 ESV
I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him.

It leads to patience

Romans 8:23–25 ESV
And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
