Rocky Soil

a. A heart without refuge is a heart to full of itself.
A heart without refuge is a heart to full of itself.
3. The design was bad, it looks like it could be a place of sowing but the intention is bad.

a. Do we come prepared to receive the word?
5. The soil was not covered.
The soil was not covered.
a. Do we cover it with prayer and meditation?
Do we cover it with prayer and meditation?
When we fail to give serious intent in readying ourselves to receive the word and cover the word with prayer and meditation we’re nothing more than highway ground….ground whose only purpose is to serve as the grazing grounds of Satan who leisurely walks through the Christian’s life plucking the seed, just as the bird, the sermons from men’s heart.

Rocky Soil

The rocky soil is a bit better than the hard soil yet still falls short of heaven.
c. It’s pack with every particle of itself and therefore has no room for anything but itself.
Observable Facts:
It has a shallow root base and thus limits the impact of the seed.
Rocky soil limits the impact of the seed by not allowing it to displace things on the surface and things below.
Soil is the product of rocks that have been broken down by physcial and chemical weathering.
Rocky soil is full of it’s own nature to accept the nature of something else.
Rocky soil Christians still have too much of the old in them to become something new
Erodes easily
Because the soil is so full of rocks it erodes much faster
The same water that nourishes good soil minimizes the ability for a seed to grow in rocky soil. It takes away the very thing that the word of God grows in.

“immediately receives it with joy”

There’s a reason that generations of students are coming out of highschool and want nothing to do with the faith. It’s because they’re swallowing it and not chewing. They take in the word too fast and don’t allow it to root in deep.

“endured for a while”

Many endure for a while…
· I’ve seen people come and people go in 7C. Just as the word says, they come and receive the word with gladness but they fail to endure when things got tough. There are those who endure for awhile but did not endure to the end.
Matthew 10:22 ESV
and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
Galatians 5:7 ESV
You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

“he has no root in himself”

No principles, no deep rooted habits, no firm resolutions in their will, no disciplines of the faith.
It is possible there may be the green blade of a profession, where yet there is not the root of grace; hardness prevails in the heart, and what there is of soil and softness is only in the surface;

“when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word”

when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word
On account of the word
It is possible there may be the green blade of a profession, where yet there is not the root of grace; hardness prevails in the heart, and what there is of soil and softness is only in the surface;
In case you forgot the Gospel is offensive to people and it brings upon itself all by itself persecution. Paul says,
Galatians 5:11 ESV
But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.
Gal 5.11
Isn’t it funny that the same sun that warms and provides for the well rooted, is the same sun that burns up and withers those who wanted deep roots. It was once said that “Christ is a saivor of life unto life and to others a savior of death unto death.”
The thing is the same tribulation that drives others away is the same that works for others “a far more exceeding and eternal weithg of glory.”
Trials which shake some, confirm others.
Philippians 1:12 ESV
I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel,
Phil 1:12
d. Foot traffic.

Thorn-Infested Soil

e. Excessive Sun

Observable Facts:

Thorns only affect the initial stages of growth
It’s only tough in the beginning.
Thorns and Thistles contain weed type characteristics
Take root faster
Outcompete plants for soil & nutrients
Grow faster and block the light
Thorns and Thistles are consequences of sin
Genesis 3:17–18 ESV
And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.
They occupy the space where fruit would normally be
Talents, gifts and other things no longer have room because of the “sin”

Fertile Soil

f. Lack of moisture.

“cares of the world”

2. An unaccepting soil or one without refuge.
a. A heart without refuge is a heart to full of itself.

Fertile Soil

3. The design was bad, it looks like it could be a place of sowing but the intention is bad.
“good soil”
4. The soil was not prepared.
Notice how we know it is good soil
a. Do we come prepared to receive the word?
Bears fruit and yields
5. The soil was not covered.
It gives evidence of its origin
Yields
a. Do we cover it with prayer and meditation?
John 15:8 ESV
By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
It multiplies itself
When we fail to give serious intent in readying ourselves to receive the word and cover the word with prayer and meditation we’re nothing more than highway ground….ground whose only purpose is to serve as the grazing grounds of Satan who leisurely walks through the Christian’s life plucking the seed, just as the bird, the sermons from men’s heart.
Matthew 28:19 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Matthew 28:19
Mark 16:15 ESV
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
He doesn’t say soil without rocks, thorns or thistles
Saints are not perfectly free from the remains of sin not the temptation of it
