Col 3:5-11. Dan Kroon. Paul often refers to our new life in terms of clothing. Being 'clothed with Christ', 'clothed in his righteousness', or 'clothed with our heavenly dwelling'. In the next two weeks we’ll consider his instructions, firstly, to 'put off' the old clothes (sinful ways) and, secondly, to 'put on' the new clothes (the ways of Jesus). Even though we recognise the tension and conflict of the 'old self' and the 'new self', Paul urges us to be ruthless with sin, doing all we can to ditch it. Whether it’s sexual sin, greed, anger or sinful speech, it all needs to go. Why? Because we are a new creation and a new community – without any room for hatred, division or neglect – because 'Christ is all, and is in all'.
