Who is God?
Heraclitus -“Until we hear a more sure word, we are ships at night in a storm, trusting the best opinions of man”

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John is saying you are right-
up until this point you have just been trusting the opinions of men on who God is
Many religions still do this
this is who God is
But Christ didn’t just say what God was like He showed us , because Christ is God
We don’t have to trust the opinions of anyone, we can look at Christ and see God
His Character

Jesus says
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jesus’ claim is that He is God
John’s Claim is that Jesus is God.
John said he was God
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Paul says Jesus is God
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
When we look at the life of Jesus we are looking at who God is
the way he responses to people
His interaction with broken people
His love for the world

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
God loves this world
God loves you
Even with all of the garbage in the world God still loves it
even with all the mistakes that we make in our lives God still loves us
which is why He is the lamb that takes away the sins of the world
He came not to judge or condemn the world But to save it
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Everyone has made mistakes
we have all messed up
we have missed the mark
no one is perfect
We see and feel the effects of sin in this world
from a broken heart caused by a broken relationship
to questioning who we are
our worth
our value
our identity
because of a broken difunctional family
we have all experienced and felt the affects of sin
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Passover
For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
The blood of the lamb was sacrificed as Passover of judgment
we all fall short
But Jesus is the lamb that took our judgment
“For God so loved that He sent Jesus to take our place
Isa 53:4-
Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;

and makes intercession for the transgressors.
Christ came to save the world
And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
