Deuteronomy 30:1–14 NKJV
“Now it shall come to pass, when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God drives you, and you return to the Lord your God and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul, that the Lord your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you. If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you. Then the Lord your God will bring you to the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers. And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. “Also the Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you. And you will again obey the voice of the Lord and do all His commandments which I command you today. The Lord your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your land for good. For the Lord will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. “For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
Introduction
I thought we would begin by having a talk about what Revival really is all about. The word in our English form means, an act or instance of reviving or the state of being revive, as a renewed attention to or interest in something in particular, a period of renewed religious interest , leading to an often highly emotional evangelistic meeting or series of meetings.
James A. Stewart, proposed, Revival is the people of God living in the power of an ungrieved, unquenched Spirit.
Howard Spring posited the kingdom of God is not going to advance by our churches becoming filled with men, but by men in our churches becoming filled with God.
C.H. Spurgeon remarked, a genuine revival without joy in the Lord is as impossible as spring without flowers, or day-dawn without light.
Andrew Murray said a true revival means nothing less than a revolution, casting out the spirit of worldliness, making God's love triumph in the heart.
D. Martin Lloyd-Jones Wrote a revival means days of heaven on earth.
Vance Havner observed that revival is the church falling in love with Jesus all over again.
So tonight, this is where I would like to begin, I am praying that through the power of God and the preached Word that this week we would fall in love with Jesus all over again! Can you say Amen!
While I don't believe there is some formula that we can follow like a magic trick to “work-up” a revival, I do believe that there are patterns which we can examine to help us understand how to prepare ourselves to receive from the Lord a revival, to open our hearts and our lives in such a way that God is able to pour out revival at this time and in this place on these people a fresh anointing, new joy and renewed strength. If you came here for revival tonight somebody shout glory!
In this particular text Deuteronomy 30th chapter 1-10 versus it has been revealed to me embedded in the word of God instructions, about what to do and what to expect at the time of revival.
In this particular passage, the Lord speaking to Israel through His servant Moses as they are coming into the land of promise, and He sees a time which Israel will turn away from Him and seeing that time of rebellion God makes a promise of Revival.
Now normally I don’t get excited about promises; but it all depends on who is making the promises. I want you to know that when God make a promise He always keeps His promises!
Transition: I'd like to look at that promise with you tonight as we begin this quest to find a biblical pattern for revival.
Look at your neighbor and tell them “God is going to bring you out and bring you back, and that a Promise!

I The covenant

Deuteronomy 29:1–29 NKJV
These are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He made with them in Horeb. Now Moses called all Israel and said to them: “You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land—the great trials which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders. Yet the Lord has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear, to this very day. And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet. You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or similar drink, that you may know that I am the Lord your God. And when you came to this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we conquered them. We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh. Therefore keep the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do. “All of you stand today before the Lord your God: your leaders and your tribes and your elders and your officers, all the men of Israel, your little ones and your wives—also the stranger who is in your camp, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water—that you may enter into covenant with the Lord your God, and into His oath, which the Lord your God makes with you today, that He may establish you today as a people for Himself, and that He may be God to you, just as He has spoken to you, and just as He has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. “I make this covenant and this oath, not with you alone, but with him who stands here with us today before the Lord our God, as well as with him who is not here with us today (for you know that we dwelt in the land of Egypt and that we came through the nations which you passed by, and you saw their abominations and their idols which were among them—wood and stone and silver and gold); so that there may not be among you man or woman or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations, and that there may not be among you a root bearing bitterness or wormwood; and so it may not happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall have peace, even though I follow the dictates of my heart’—as though the drunkard could be included with the sober. “The Lord would not spare him; for then the anger of the Lord and His jealousy would burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book would settle on him, and the Lord would blot out his name from under heaven. And the Lord would separate him from all the tribes of Israel for adversity, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this Book of the Law, so that the coming generation of your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, would say, when they see the plagues of that land and the sicknesses which the Lord has laid on it: ‘The whole land is brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’ All nations would say, ‘Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?’ Then people would say: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt; for they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that He had not given to them. Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against this land, to bring on it every curse that is written in this book. And the Lord uprooted them from their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.’ “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Tragic flooding in Texas, wildfires in the West, E5 hurricanes March up the middle of our country. Like soldiers on parade leaving a wake of devastation and destruction. Flooding in places that have flooded in years, heat waves, unfair business practices leading to price manipulation, while the poor get poorer and the rich get richer.
Make no mistake about it, I'll nation and our world is under the judgment of God! But I find courage in this one, thing, but God that we serve specializes in bringing dead things back to life!
So God basically is telling the Israelites through his servant Moses.
If you obey me and serve me I will bless you, and I will bless your children.
But If you don’t I will curse you and curse your children and all of the calamities will overtake you!
Moses had passionately urged the nation to obey the Lord and His commands, and had set the blessings and curses … before them in order to motivate them.
Yet he knew his fickle and stubborn people well enough to realize that their apostasy was inevitable and that the worst curses would come upon them—exile and dispersion among the nations.
However, even in the midst of this curse he foresaw God’s blessing. For Israel would come to her senses; she would take God’s word to heart.
2 Chronicles 7:14–15 NKJV
if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

II The change

The blessing begins by Returning to God!

Zechariah 1:3 NKJV
Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.
Deuteronomy 30:1–10 NKJV

Moses tells the people that the Lord will change their hearts while they are in captivity, and they will love the Lord wholeheartedly. The Lord will then gather them together once again and restore them to their land. He will bless them and make them more prosperous than ever.

If all the sleeping folk will wake up—and all the lukewarm folk will fire up—and all the dishonest folk will confess up—and all the disgruntled folk will sweeten up—and the discouraged folk will look up—and all the estranged folk will make up—and all the gossipers will shut up—and all the dry bones will shake up—and all the true soldiers will stand up—and all the church members will pray up—then you will have a revival.
James A. Stewart, proposed, Revival is the people of God living in the power of an ungrieved, unquenched Spirit.

Christian friends judgment has come to our nation. Political unrest with our leaders. Corruption in our government, racism and injustice is running rampant in this great nation of ours. Our children are being shot down in the streets with no regard for the sanctity of life. Trey von Martin tragically is only one case of the senseless killing that's going on in our communities and have been going all for long time now! When are we going to wake up and see what the Bible has been warning us about and turn back to God so that he can heal our land!

Come and give God a praise!

Israel enjoyed the blessings for less than 1,000 years. They entered Canaan about 1400 B.C., and Babylon conquered Israel about 587 B.C. In addition, many times during this period Israel disobeyed God and was chastened.

For Israel would come to her senses; she would take God’s word to heart.[1]
1 And it shall come to pass…
God was looking down the line and He saw what the nation of Israel was going to do before they even did it. You see Israel like the United States enjoyed the blessings of the Lord. They entered Canaan about 1400 B.C., and Babylon conquered Israel about 587 B.C. However, Israel like many of us disobeyed God and was chastened.
Hebrews 12:5 NKJV
And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
Heb
Isn’t this just like our God even when He has to punish us there is a promise to hold on to. In our text; God promises to “turn the captivity” of Israel and restore the nation to the land. But there were some things that Israel was going to have to do before God would move into action and begin the process of the divine turn-around
Now I want you to see this: Revival always begins with God! He is the loving shepherd who seeks after us, pursues us and watches over us, the sheep of His pasture.
Romans 5:10 NKJV
For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
He is the God who looks for us… The Lord has came to man in different ways. He came to Adam in the cool of the evening. He came to Abraham disguised as a stranger. He came to Jacob Standing at the top of a ladder. He came to Ezekiel as a wheel in the middle of a wheel. He came to Isaiah high and lifted up. He came to the three Hebrew boys as the fourth person in the midst of the fiery furnace. He appeared to Moses as a burning bush; He appeared to Daniel as the Ancient of Days… He came to Joshua as the Captain of Lord’s Host; He came to Job out of the midst of a mighty whirl wind; and He also came to John the revelator as the First and the Last as He was dead and now is alive forever more…
All I am trying to say is that God sees me long before I see Him!
God is standing like a loving father waiting to bless you and restore you back to place He has prepared for you! What are you waiting for!
So then revival always begins with God!
So Revival always begins with God Robert Coleman wrote that Revival is that sovereign work of God in which He visits His own people, restoring and releasing them into the fullness of His blessing.
G. Campbell Morgan commented, Revival cannot be organized, but we can set our sails to catch the wind from heaven when God chooses to blow upon His people once again.
Dr. Stephen Olford said, Revival is an invasion from heaven that brings a conscious awareness of God.

God says that while you going through I gonna change your heart

The gift of memory!

That phrase "take them to heart" is more literally translated "call them to mind" or remember. What is the Lord saying here? Remember in the previous Chapter He has laid out all of the bad things that will happen to Israel if they choose to turn their backs on Him, not as punishment, but simply as natural consequences of their actions. Your actions carry consequences!
Wars, pestilence, disease, exile from their homeland. Now he is saying, when those things happen, I want you to remember what I'm saying to you now. I want it to be a wake-up call, I want you to say to yourself, "this is exactly what the Lord said would happen."
He's saying, I want to make things right again, I want to be close to you again, I want revival more than you do but first I need you to Remember what I told you!
God is saying that even before you mess up I am going to tell you how you can get back!
It's still true for us today. Perhaps in your life you've wandered far from the Lord, maybe you've never had a relationship with Him at all. You look at your life and it's a shambles, maybe those around you know it and maybe they don't, maybe the circumstances of your life are still holding together and maybe they're falling apart, but inside you're empty
It's time to Remember the Word of the Lord.
Perhaps even as a church, as a local congregation it's time for us to take a hard look at ourselves. Are we satisfied with where we're at? Are we making a difference in the mission field the Lord has put us in? Are we serving the Lord with all of our heart, soul and mind? Is our gathering on Sunday morning a social ritual or are we committed to making it a Spirit filled celebration and expression of the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, Perhaps it's time to Remember.

Paul quotes 30:11–14 in Rom. 10:6–8 and applies it to Christ. Christ is not far away from His people, even though they have turned away from Him. If they will call, He will save!

The grand conclusion of Moses’ address is in 30:15–20. The nation had to choose between life and death, blessing and cursing. As always, such a choice is a matter of the heart (v. 17). Mere outward obedience will not do; it must come from within.

Romans 10:6–8 NKJV
But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
Roman 10:
THE MIRACLE IS IN YOUR MOUTH!
Your life is at the mercy of your mouth.
Your mouth is the rudder of your life.
Your mouth organizes and directs your life.
Life opens in the direction of your mouth.
Many times restruration takes place after judgement
Don’t close your mouth if you don’t want your life to close.
Don’t use your mouth to describe your situation. Rather use it to declare your expectation.
God is committed to perform only what your mouth releases.
The greatest discipline in life is the discipline of the tongue.
Deuteronomy 30:1 NKJV
“Now it shall come to pass, when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God drives you,
Control of tongue is control of life.

1. How the repentance is described which is the condition of these promises. (1.) It begins in serious consideration, v. 1. “Thou shalt call to mind that which thou hadst forgotten or not regarded.” Note, Consideration is the first step towards conversion. Isa. 46:8, Bring to mind, O you transgressors. The prodigal son came to himself first, and then to his father. That which they should call to mind is the blessing and the curse. If sinners would but seriously consider the happiness they have lost by sin and the misery they have brought themselves into, and that by repentance they may escape that misery and recover that happiness, they would not delay to return to the Lord their God. The prodigal called to mind the blessing and the curse when he considered his present poverty and the plenty of bread in his father’s house, Lu. 15:17. (2.) It consists in sincere conversion. The effect of the consideration cannot but be godly sorrow and shame, Eze. 6:9; 7:16. But that which is the life and soul of repentance, and without which the most passionate expressions are but a jest, is returning to the Lord our God, v. 2. If thou turn (v. 10) with all thy heart and with all thy soul. We must return to our allegiance to God as our Lord and ruler, our dependence upon him as our Father and benefactor, our devotedness to him as our highest end, and our communion with him as our God in covenant. We must return to God from all that which stands in opposition to him or competition with him. In this return to God we must be upright—with the heart and soul, and universal—with all the heart and all the soul. (3.) It is evidenced by a constant obedience to the holy will of God: If thou shalt obey his voice (v. 2), thou and thy children; for it is not enough that we do our duty ourselves, but we must train up and engage our children to do it.

III The Choice

Psalm 9:17 NKJV
The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.

Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.

But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
