Take it all off!!!
Zechariah 3:1–7 NASB95
1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. 2 The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. 4 He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” Again he said to him, “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes.” 5 Then I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments, while the angel of the Lord was standing by. 6 And the angel of the Lord admonished Joshua, saying, 7 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘If you will walk in My ways and if you will perform My service, then you will also govern My house and also have charge of My courts, and I will grant you free access among these who are standing here.
Now turn with me to
Romans 13:14 NASB95
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
Now turn with me to
Now turn with me to
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
(Start illustration with putting on all these kinds of clothes.)
(Putting on anger, frustration, pain, hurt, performance, Prayer)
Put on Christ.
The problem is that many time we try to put on and never take off.
Often times we are more concerned with covering a thing than dealing with it.
Look how silly he looks right now ,but the truth is many of you look much sillier on the inside.
Covering… hiding..
When eden has a bad diaper, I have to deal with the crap (don’t be offended)
I have to take off the old one before putting on a new one.
There have been times the diaper is sooooo bad. I would have to us put a new one on top of it and continue on but I have to deal with the old before putting on the new
In our text here in Zechariah we see a man by the name of Joshua.
This is not the leader of Israel that we see at Jericho, but rather the high priest after the Babylonian captivity.
Zechariah sees Joshua standing before (in the presence of) the angle of the Lord, and Satan standing by trying to resist him, and the Lord rebuked Satan and refused to permit him to stop the restoration of Judah and Jerusalem.
Now, the problem with Joshua here is that he was ministering in garment that were not proper for a high priest, they where filthy
He was told to take off these garments and put new ones.
Clean ones and in that way God would take away his inequities and clean him.
I always say, the past is not the past unless its pasted.
And often times the pain is so strong that we would rather bury it deep deep down that have to be reminded of it or deal with it.
Pain for instance, can manifest in unforgiveness and bitterness.
Hebrews 12:15 NASB95
See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;
we can not continue to cover, hide, and put on
And after this change of clothing the angle gave him a futuristic and prophet message about the messiah.
Joshua before you can put on the new you must take off the old.
You don’t put on a clean diaper on top of a dirty one.

We must take off the old so that we can experience the new.

its hard to worship freely when you are so heavy.
thats why jesus says,
Matthew 11:28 NASB95
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28–30 NASB95
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
when we worship we lay our problem, we lay our care.. all of our heaviness and weight . at his feet and we find rest.
Look at
Ezekiel 44:17–18 NASB95
“It shall be that when they enter at the gates of the inner court, they shall be clothed with linen garments; and wool shall not be on them while they are ministering in the gates of the inner court and in the house. “Linen turbans shall be on their heads and linen undergarments shall be on their loins; they shall not gird themselves with anything which makes them sweat.
they shall not gird themselves with anything which makes them sweat.
Eze 44:17-18
while you are here this morning take off everything that makes you sweat.
Paul says, “put on Christ” just before he says to put on, he tell us 8 things.
says but on Christ but before he says to put on he tell us what to take off.
Romans 13:12 NASB95
The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
he says two things
he says two things
he says two things
1. Cast off the works of darkness.
2. Put on the armor of light
Romans 13:13 NASB95
Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.
Romans 12:13 NASB95
contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.
Romans 13:
Rom

6. Refrain from quarreling, contention,, and jealously.
Romans 13:14 NASB95
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.
7. Clothe selves with the character of Jesus Christ
8. Make no provision for lust.
Now the phrase to be clothed with a person is a Greek phrase signifying to take upon one the interest of another. To enter into his vies and be wholly on his side, imitation him in all things.
Now turn with me to
Colossians 3:8–10 KJV 1900
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Put off 7 things.
But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
The King James version say put off all things.
What things?

2. Wrath
3. Malice
4. Slander

Colossians 3:10–14 NASB95
10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
Colossians 3:10–17 NASB95
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

i want to read Verse 13

Now I want to close with talk about the new man.
Turn to
Ephesians 4:24 NASB95
24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
(take all that stuff off)
and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Now look at verse 23
ephh 4:23
Ephesians 4:23 NASB95
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
the greek word for renew here is an-an-eoo meaning the whole course of life now flow in a different direction
and the word to put on here in en-duo meaning to cloth with,
the new nature must e put on and it must manifest righteousness and true holiness.
Joshua take it all off so that you can put me on.
