One Who Thanks

List 10 things that you are thankful for.
The story of the lepers is told as the nine who did not thank Jesus. Let’s have a shift in paradigm. The Samaritan would have won the award for “least likely to thank Jesus” or “Most likely to fall asleep at church”. The one least like to thank a Jewish man for solving his problems became the most thankful out of the bunch.
Thankfulness is a commandment. We owe it to God to be thankful to him.
Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples.
Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name;
God deserves gratitude and praise, we should be unashamed in thanking him for all of his goodness. Do you want to know how to be thankful? Take a look at this text and it will show you how.
Make known His deeds among the peoples.
Glorify God with a loud voice.
The word loud in this text is known by its intensity.
Thank him in a humble way because we do not deserve his unmerited favor.
Be proud of what God has done in your life. “Stand up and go; your faith has made you well”.
Everyone here has a reason to be thankful. Thankfulness is overlooked but it is very important. We see in the text where Jesus says “were there not ten cleansed? But the nine-where are they?
Have you ever forgot to thank God, or taken for granted the great things he has done in your life because you become so accustomed to them happening?

Do Not Confuse Thanksgiving

The nine others did not thank Jesus for what he had done. It is possible that they confused reverence for thanksgiving. It is evident that they were in awe of Christ.
As He entered a village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him
Lepers were required to stand at a distance of those who were considered clean. This is why it is quite ironic, that not only a leper but a Samaritan had no problem with falling on his face at the feet of Jesus. A sense of awe is very important even indispensable for worship, but reverence is not thanksgiving.
We respect and revere the red light, but how often are we thankful for it?
What are some things that we hold in high regard that we are not necessarily thankful for?
Sometimes we confuse recognition with thanksgiving.
Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!
We recognize the position, but be mindful that recognition and confession are not to be confused with thanksgiving. “Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner”.
Sometimes obedience can be done out of habit. Responding to the call of Christ is a showing of good faith, but obedience becomes habit when gratitude is not attached to it.

Do Not Refuse Thanksgiving

Every good thing in our life comes from God. The gratitude of the Samaritan grew with proclamation.
We should not be afraid of showing our thankfulness to God.
Now one of them when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice.
Gratitude must compel us to move from inward recognition to outward representation.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.
We should verbally express our thankfulness unto God.
Come and hear, all who fear God, And I will tell of what He has done for my soul. I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear But certainly God has heard; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer Nor His lovingkindness from me.
16 Come and hear, all who fear God, And I will tell of what He has done for my soul. I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear But certainly God has heard; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer Nor His lovingkindness from me.

17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
And He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard wickedness in my heart,
18 If I regard wickedness in my heart,
The Lord will not hear But certainly God has heard;
The position of thankfulness:
19 But certainly God has heard;
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer Blessed be God,
He prostrates himself at the feet of Jesus. Understand that his life is changed and he shows Jesus accordingly. We should not be afraid to show (outwardly) that we are thankful for every blessing!
20 Blessed be God,
Who has not turned away my prayer

Do Not Abuse Thanksgiving

Nor His lovingkindness from me.
Just because we expect Jesus to do something does not exempt us from being thankful.
We need to be an example of thankfulness.
We can infer that there were some people of the household of faith that were healed, but their expectation of Jesus caused them to forget to be thankful in the way the Samaritan did.
Jesus suggests that the only ones to thank God are the unlikely ones.
Will you belong to company of the one, or the company of the nine?
