1Th 4:9-12. Tony van Drimmelen. This may come as a surprise. God gives spiritual gifts to equip us at work! We do God a disservice if we only recognize spiritual gifts that operate in the church and not in the workplace. In Exodus we have the account of two workers who are said to be master craftsmen at their work because they are “filled with the Spirit of God.” The Christians in Thessalonica are told to “work with their hands” to please God and to benefit others. They are urged to do so "in the Lord Jesus Christ" (1Th 4:2). Amazingly, the gospel impacts the practice of and the motivation to work. In our society so many people work for money or status to be successful and earn a living. But when we are equipped by the Spirit of God, our approach to work is radically different because we have gifts, skills and abilities that God supplies.
