Choosing the Way of Blessing

Pastor Keith Hassell

Foundation Scripture:            Psalm 1

I.          This Psalm speaks of two paths

            A.        The way of the ungodly

            B.         The way of blessing

II.        The way of the ungodly

            A.        They walk (lifestyle):     According to the counsel of the ungodly

            B.         They stand (identification):         In the path of sinners

            C.        They sit (position):        In the seat of the scornful (look down on others)

III.       The end of the ungodly

            A.        They are like the chaff which the wind drives away

            B.         They shall not stand in the judgment

            C.        They shall not stand in the congregation of the righteous

IV.       The way of the righteous

            A.        They do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly

1.         Everyone has their opinion but the righteous will speak the counsel of the Lord

2.         Choose your closest counselors wisely

            B.         They do not stand in the path of sinners

                        1.         They walk on the highway of holiness (Isaiah 35:8)

            C.        They do not sit in the seat of the scornful

1.         They have a heart of humility and do not think of themselves more highly than they ought

            D.        They are blessed

            E.         They delight in the law of the Lord (posture of the heart)

            F.         They meditate in His law day and night (posture of their soul and mind)

G.        They are like a TREE

1.         PLANTED (roots):  Planted by the rivers of water (covenanted, established)

2.         FRUITFUL (fruit):  Brings forth fruit in its season (In step with God’s time, winning souls and accomplishing good works)

3.         FLOURISHING (leaves):  Leaf also shall not wither (Praising, worshiping)

            H.        Whatever he does shall prosper

            I.          The Lord knows the way of the righteous (He walks that path Himself)

V.        The choice is before us:

            A.        The way of blessing

            B.         The way of destruction
