Key Verse: “Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.”

Job 14:5 KJV

I.       Boundaries are set by

          A.      God

1.       Acts 17:26  And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings.”

B.                The word of God

1.       Joshua 14:5  As the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.”

C.               The fathers

1.       Proverbs 22:28  Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set.”

D.               The level of our gift

1.       Luke 16:12  And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?”

E.                People’s response to us

1.       2 Corinthians 7:2 “Open your hearts to us.  We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one.”

F.                Our level of faith

1.       Matthew 9:29 “According to your faith let it be to you.”

G.               Our measure of rule

1.       2 Corinthians 10:12-16 “For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves.  But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.  We, however, will not boast beyond measure, but within the limits of our sphere which God has appointed us---a sphere which especially includes you.  For we are not overextending ourselves (as though our authority did not extend to you), for it was to you that we came with the gospel of Christ; not boasting of things beyond measure, that is, in other men’s labors, but having hope, that as your faith is increased, we shall be greatly enlarged by you in our sphere, to preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s sphere of accomplishment.”

2.       Our measure of rule includes

          a.       Our bodies

          b.       Our soul (mind, will, emotions)

          c.       Our marriage

          d.       Our children

          e.       Our families

          f.       Our jobs

          g.       Our place in the church as brothers and sisters

          h.       Our function in the church

          i.        Our ministry

          j.        Our role in society

          H.      Timing

1.       Ecclesiastes 3

          I.       Ordinances of man

1.       1 Peter 2:13

II.      Stepping across boundaries

A.               Trespass – to cross a boundary illegally

B.                Covet – to lust for what God has not place within your boundaries

III.    When we stay within our set boundaries we can expect

A.               To hear from God

1.       I Samuel 3:9-10  Therefore Eli said to Samuel, ‘Go lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.”’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place.  Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’  And Samuel answered, ‘Speak, for Your servant hears.’”

B.                To stay free from bondage

1.       Jude 6  And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.”

C.               Our sphere of rulership to be enlarged

1.       Matthew 25:21  And the Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.  Enter into the joy of your lord.’”

IV.            How do we know if we are in our measure of rule?

A.               Peace in our heart

B.                Peace in our home

C.               Peace in the church

D.               Oceans and rivers have boundaries.  When they get outside of their boundaries, they do great harm.  When we get outside of our boundaries, we do not bring peace but destruction.
