Birth Pangs of Redemption

Foundation Scripture:  Luke 21:25-28

 

I.

Birth pangs of Redemption

A.               Matthew 24:6-8 /“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars.

See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

*7 *For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

And there will be famines, pestilences,  and earthquakes in various places.

*8 *All these are the beginning of sorrows.”/

[literally: /birth pangs/]

 

II.

Zion is in labor to bring forth her children

A.               Isaiah 66:7-9 /“‘Before she was in labor, she gave birth;// before her pain came, she delivered a male child.

*8 *Who has heard such a thing?

Who has seen such things?

Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day?

Or shall a nation be born at once?

For as soon as Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children.

*9 *Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?’ says the Lord.

‘Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?’ says your God.”/

 

III.

Creation eagerly awaits these children

A.               Romans 8:18-25 /“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

*19 *For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

*20 *For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; *21 *because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

*22 *For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”/

B.                Creation was affected in the fall of man and awaits its deliverance when the revealing of the sons of God

 

IV.

Believers eagerly await the redemption of the body

A.               Romans 8:23-25 /“Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.

*24 *For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?

*25 *But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.”/

B.                This is the time when the mortal will put on immortality and this corruption will put on incorruption

C.               There will be no more separation, death, disease, heartache, sorrow, or pain

 

V.

Travail is experienced in God’s shakings in this life

A.               Hebrews 12:25-29 /“See that you do not refuse Him who speaks.

For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, *26 *whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, //‘Yet once more I //shake //not only the earth, but also heaven.’

 *27 *Now this, //‘Yet once more,’ indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

*28 *Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

*29 *For our God is a consuming fire.”/

B.                Everything that is not kingdom will be shaken loose and removed

C.               This will create turmoil /around us/ but should not /in us/ if our lives are being built on the kingdom of God

D.               God is bringing forth His kingdom in our hearts and lives

E.                How do we respond to the shaking?

Let us have grace

1.

To serve God acceptably

a               With reverence

b              With godly fear

 

VI.

Lift Up Your Heads

A.               Don’t be worried

B.                Don’t be discouraged

C.               Don’t be fearful

D.               Don’t settle your hope on this life

E.                Set your heart and mind on your redemption

F.                It is nearer now than ever before!
