We Are A Kingdom People

I.

God has always had a kingdom

A.               Daniel 4:34 /“And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: //for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation.

All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing;”/

B.                Psalm 22:28 /“For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations.”/

II.

Nimrod had the first earthly kingdom

A.               Genesis 10:10 /“And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.”/

B.                Babel was the capital of Nimrod’s kingdom (Genesis 11:1-9)

C.               Babylon represents the rule and authority that opposes the kingdom of God and worship of God

D.               Babylon is represented in Revelation 17-18.

God says, “come out of her My people lest you share in her sins and lest you receive of her plagues.”

(18:4)

 

III.

God desires to establish His kingdom among men

A.               Exodus 19:6 /“‘And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’

These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”/

IV.

Living with a kingdom mindset

A.               The kingdom of God has a King with sovereign authority

B.                The kingdom of God has a citizenship (saints)

C.               The kingdom of God has a culture (we are not of this world)

D.               The kingdom of God has a dominion (extent of a king’s reign).

Two aspects:

1.

He rules over all because He is sovereign

2.          He is worshiped and served by all who receive Him

E.                The kingdom of God has power (ability to act or produce an effect)

F.                The kingdom of God has a standard of righteousness (God’s law)

G.               The kingdom of God has system of justice (He is Judge and there is no jury)

 

V.

The Gospel is the message of God’s kingdom

A.               Matthew 3:2 /“and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”/

B.                Mark 1:14-15 /“Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.

Repent, and believe in the gospel.’”/

C.               Matthew 9:35 /“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”/

D.               Matthew 10:7 /“And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”/

VI.

How do we enter the kingdom of God?

A.               Many will not enter the kingdom of God

1.          1 Corinthians 6:9-10 /“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.

Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”/

B.                We must repent

1.          Mark 1:15 /“and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.

Repent, and believe in the gospel.’”/

C.               We must be born again

1.          John 3:1-8

D.               We must come to Jesus as a little child (humility and simple trust)

1.          Mark 10:15 /“Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it./

E.                Salvation is a transfer from one kingdom to another

1.          Colossians 1:12-13 /“Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.”/

VII.

Contending for the kingdom

A.               Matthew 11:11-12 /“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.”/

B.                Hebrews 12:28-29 /“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

For our God is a consuming fire.”/
