Moses gave to God’s Law to God’s people

They have a ceremony to confirm the covenant between God and them
We look at the Laws of God often times in the wrong light
1 Corinthians 10:23–24 ESV
“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.
could be that you have found a loophole in God’s Law that allows you to do something
1 Cor 10:
justify it in some way to help you feel that it is not wrong
rather than looking for how to live in a way that is not wrong we should look as to how to live that is most helpful
1 Corinthians 10:32–33 ESV
Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
1 Cor 10:
It’s all about giving of ourselves for the benefit of God’s purpose in the lives of others
Continuing reading about Moses
ceremony then...
Moses spends 40 days and 40 nights in the presence of the Lord away from the people
Exodus 25:1–8 ESV
The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me. And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats’ hair, tanned rams’ skins, goatskins, acacia wood, oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece. And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.
Imitating Christ is done by giving
many ways to give to God
set up tithes & offerings
Tithes are given as a basis of regular giving
b/c of OT many suggest that we give 10% of every dollar earned
Offering is something above our normal giving
often times for a specific purpose
can’t give certain amount financially
never have
God spoke to us thru Paul to say it this way
2 Corinthians 9:6–7 ESV
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
so I don’t mention money often b/c I don’t want to pressure anyone to give out of guilt
but it is also my responsibility to teach you the truth
one of the biggest blessings is to give
the more we give; the more that I feel God moving in my life
reflection of obedience and faith
Encourage you to start giving financially because the purpose of the giving is for building of a place where people can come and be with them
v.8 God says “that I may be in their midst”
1. So we can give of our finances for the purpose of God
2. we can give of our abilities and talents to the purpose of God
Exodus 25:10 ESV
“They shall make an ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height.
Exodus
They shall make...
Some can serve in one way while others in their own way but we can all serve in our own way
teach
testify
clean
encourage
pray
work on facility
organize/plan
assist others
listen
Find what God has given you and find how that you can put it to use for the upbuilding of the church
financial
ability
Time
We will never give of our talents until we are willing to give of our time
Reports about people coming to BCG
give more, volunteer more, miss Sunday church less often
God told moses to have the people build an altar to bring their sacrifices and then a few other instructions before Moses came down to the people
Moses was gone for a 40 days and the Israelites got impatient and did what anyone else would have done and they built a huge golden calf to worship
How did they do it?
by giving up their jewelry to be melted
We don’t give our money to God b/c we have given it to our other god
we don’t give our talents to Him b/c we have given them away to other causes
we don’t give God much of our time b/c someone or something else already has it
We’ve built a golden calf
God is doing for us today like he did for the Israelites… giving us a second chance
the way that you have conducted yourself in the past does not define your future
I mentioned the altar...
they would take items to be consumed to the altar as sacrifices to God
we are to come to the altar with sacrifices as well
God I give you control over my finances that I will stop giving my resourses to the golden calf and give them to you
God I give you my talent to be used for your kingdom and purpose
and I am only able to give you my talent Lord if I give you my time
I commit to make you a priority
your schedule is my schedule
2 Cor 9
How much pastor?
2 Corinthians 9:6–7 ESV
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
