Stone Pillars
Boundaries, today in our society we don’t display a lot of boundaries, people do as they please and do not think about the consequences until after that fact and then they are surprised.

In Isreal they would set stone pillars up marking a land, to denote the boundaries of a persons land and there were grave consequences if you moved a boundary, a marker, a pillar.
I used to think my father was old fashioned and now today I don’t think so.
I think he was principled and taught us the things we needed to know.
But what about people who think the Bible is outdated, it is old fashioned and others who want to update it to mean something that God never meant in the first place?
Our ever changing world is just that, ever changing, but God’s Word is true and unchanging.
As a christian today, do we look like the old fashion Christians?
Today I want to look at old fashioned Christianity, here are some of the markers of an old fashioned Christian and may these markers, boundaries be found in us.
I.He Believes the Bible
(Slide) He knows it is the Word of God and is God’s Word
(Slide) Would not even consider it was wrong, had errors or contradicted itself.

(Slide) He obeyed it and followed it’s commands

As for the commands
You knew it because he lived it, loved the Lord and loved others in word and deed.
The things that were forbade he did not do for he knew of the grievousness of sin

He takes his Christianity Seriously
He knew there was something different about a Christian and was not afraid to be different.

Different is not just an outside thing, it is an inside thing, a heart thing.

An old fashioned Christian knows the world and it’s things are passing away but the eternal things of God will never pass away.
He is not worried about the what the world thinks of him.
He wants to impact the world for the Lord.
He takes his Christianity seriously and knows when he renews his mind through God’s Word he is able to prove what is the will of God and do those things.
He loves the Lord and will keep His commands
He is not a Sunday only Christian, he lived out his faith daily.
Yes, keeping your word, each day, every day, all the way knowing the Lord is your portion!
This is more than a physical thing, but this is a spiritual thing too, keeping your word to God that you offered up in prayer or in thought to Him.
Psm119:
He takes his Christianity seriously and keeps way from things that can or will stumble him or others.
He takes in the word of God because he was taught the word of God and in turn teaches the word of God to others.
He holds fast to the word even when it is unpopular.
As an old fashioned Christian he did not compartmentalize or fragment his life.
He lived for Christ all day in every way for Him who gave it all for him to have the life he has.
He knew the importance of meeting together.
(EXPAND ON THAT: GET THE WORD IN, SO THE WORD STAYS IN AND THE WORD WILL COME OUT) - PUT INTO PRACTICE OR RISK LOSING IT.
Just as the old time Christian gathered we gather today to (Expand on this too)
He was willing to share Christ with others and did, may that still be a great example for us today, sharing our Jesus with others.

He holds to traditional values

To Him it is more important to share the truth and stand in the truth vs. being popular
He did not try to make two wrongs into a right.
Rom12:

He loves his enemy (v.20)
He knew what ever he did, it was to give thanks to God the Father through doing it in Jesus name.
He did it not because he had too, but because he works for the Lord and worked from his heart daily.

He knew that if he did not work that proverty would come upon him.
There was no time to be lazy
He took the marriage vows “of in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad” seriously - he worked through things since he knew God created marriage to a lifetime thing.

He didn’t know a man named Spock or a woman named Clinton (it takes a parent to raise a child, not a village)

He was not enthralled with psychology but was with theology (it is about what God says not what man says)

Discipline was not something threatened, it was used to correct the child.

Discipline helped his child (it helps the child know there are consequences to choices and helps child learn right from wrong)
He was not impressed with psychology he was with theology.
He did not worry about phases but in raising with consistency
