Sermon Tone Analysis

This lesson will help you understand the gospels better.

In Lesson 1 you learned many facts about the background and overall content of the New Testament.

In this lesson you will take a closer look at the first four books of the New Testament.

You will learn how these four accounts are alike in the way they tell the story of Jesus and how they are different.

You will also learn about the land where Jesus lived and the places where He ministered.

You will become acquainted, too, with some of His teachings and the way in which He taught.

Ask Who is the principal character in the four Gospel account?

Answer: It is Jesus, and each account presents the same basic events of His life.

We learn from these account who Jesus is, where He lived and ministered, and what He taught.

2. Have four student each describe in one sentence characteristics of their pastor or some other individual known by all four of them.

Have the other students identify similarities and differences in description.

Explain that each Gospel account describes similar fact about Jesus from the author’s pwn perspective as he was led by the Holy Spirit to write for a specific audience.

Answer Different kinds of people are drawn to each account; also, the variety emphasizes even more the main events in Jesus life and helps assure the accuracy of the records.

Let me illustrate this idea.

Suppose a young family is standing on a street corner and witnesses an automobile accident.

The father might tell you the make and model of the two cars involved.

The mother might be able to tell you the color of the cars involved and the number of occupants.

Their little boy witnessing the same accident might not know about the make or model of the cars, but he might be able to tell you about the puppy dog who was almost hit, while his little sister would only tell you about the baby doll that got thrown out of the first car at the time of impact.

Now, who told the truth?

They all told the truth, but from different viewpoints.
