Being With Him
what is it really?
what is it really?
last week we heard a message that I hope convicted each one of us. I was. I took notes and what was the final theme for me was “boots on the ground” which i think of a real time battle situation. that is what we are in for the souls of our community.....
in that service time, God challenged my heart with the idea of spreading the gospel to every single person that lives in Andover Maine. Yeah! talk about powerful! remembering one thing that Dave said was that we could all do something. And God has made it that way. we can all share the gospel regardless of our giftings. you can go back and listen to the message again, we recorded it!
so whats the problem in the church today??
the problem comes with the church today when it turns inward and stops allowing God message of the gospel to flow outward. Now, I am not talking bad about inward ministry because it is vital to the body. it is like our own physical body that we care for..... we feed it, give it information, but we also live outward, we use the energy from the food we eat and we use the knowledge that we get at work, home and in life....
So, the church, as one body must take in and give out. body ministry and fulfill the mission to the ones who haven’t heard, yet. we who share the gospel through love and language will reap a harvest! amen?
?what gospel did you hear?
is the gospel that you heard and believed worth telling to another?
For this to take place, we must work some things out in our lives. today, we will go there.....we will look at some tough stuff. we will be challenged to deal with stuff in our lives. things that may have been holding us back from the freedom in Christ. the freedom to live for Him. to share Him with a neighbor. what is your roadblock?
today may be a turning point for you. a day of reckoning....... a day of grief and sorrow and loss, but also a day of great rejoicing because we are His, and He has freed us..... we must remember, He has freed us.
this is a new beginning for us, church. get ready. we are moving ahead in the Lord as Paul says in Philippians 3.... hear the word “press on” in these verses.
that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
Paul was pressing on, not looking back....not past focused but forward focused.... forward thinking. this verse connects to the one before it with Paul speaking about knowing Christ, where Christ being with him changed everything.....the righteousness of Christ, the resurrection from the dead! it is glorious!!!! church, is your salvation glorious?
Paul also speaks about our thoughts. how our thoughts can look forward....
Let me ask.....if you took inventory of your thought life, would you say that your thoughts were about what happened in the past, or what direction you are going in the future?
looking in the past too long is like trying to drive a car by focusing on the rear view mirrors. how long would you stay on the road?
so, what are we looking forward at? Good question..... what about where God is taking you? and seeing that God has enough for you to live....to get through what is coming. just like Peter says
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
has granted to us tells us that He has us covered for the future and even the past. He has healing for past hurts with forgiveness for our hearts, and mercy, love and grace for the future. do you believe that today? are you thinking this daily? Or are we caught in mind traps, focused on the past hurts that we just can’t let go of? or maybe focused on what we don’t have and wishing we had more? what are your thoughts?
are they focused on what you want to do? what you can get? be honest.... you don’t have to tell anyone here.... so be ruthlessly honest to yourself right now.
and let’s hit on another biggie for us. acceptance. do we fight and struggle to be accepted? this is an issue that affects everyone from about birth on..... so I know it has been in your life as well as mine. maybe you have reached a place where you have recieved from the Lord the acceptance you have always needed and you are satisfied, you are not trying to get it from others in the world. maybe you are not there yet.
how to know? are you living to please others so you think they will accept you? ask yourself for real. no other person here knows what you are thinking......
10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Paul says this statement after getting confrontational with the Galatians.... they had been tempted to leave the true gospel and fall into a works based acceptance...... a works based religion. did you hear me? a works based acceptance.
we learned as children that in this world we must do what is right to be accepted..... right? so, it is natural to carry that thinking into the church....even though the scripture states clearly that God has not done that.
what has God done then? He accepted us, right in our filth. right in our weakness. in our complete and utter vileness. before you and I could do anything right our good to earn His acceptance, He led with love. thinking about it, how foolish to ever think we could earn His acceptance. How arrogant! He is God. we are wretched. us earning our acceptance.....right.... that is all the other religions in this world. that is all the prideful people in this world that are deceived in their thinking. that thinking is not for you and I. we must be clear thinking. thinking what is true, truth like says.
now, one more thing to wrestle out today. I saved the best for last.
If we start getting our thinking on track with God, then we are going to see things His way, yes? do you agree with me?
well, then...... let’s talk about that word. sin. two weeks ago we looked at where it all begins. we talked about God’s conviction of our sin. remember, we need to know and agree that there is a problem, a big problem that we can’t solve before we start desiring an answer. So sin.... how is your attitude towards you sin?
I have seen some Christians that just accept their sin, without ever thinking another thought about it. they live defeated by the certain sin that has them in it’s clutch. they are hopeless. but wait, are they? are you hopeless? Now, I am not preaching perfection here, God knows what I am preaching though, that He can break chains, He can break sin’s power in our lives. He can free you from the sin that is on your mind right now.
the freedom has to do with our thinking. thinking like our Lord. in agreement with Him. Does God hate sin? of course.....so what does our God think about sin?
we should do the same!
A devious heart will be far from me; I will not be involved with evil.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
we cry out Father! our Father! save us from ourselves. save us from our sin! make us hate our sin! that we may be rid of it once and for all!
