Our Worldview Dictates How We Respond

I want to take time to set the tone for the topics that James will discuss in chapter 4.
What he states will seem contradictory to the world we live in
What is your worldview???
I would argue that most of us have a double-minded worldview...

Day to Day view of the world

We tend to look at the world with worldly wisdom and how our culture, peers, and our desires wish to see things
This is our “go to”
This is a much more comfortable view to have in this world… few will argue with you
We could illustrate by a pair of glasses worn to see 20/20 on a daily basis, it is what is normal. The worldview that the world holds to gives us a
***Temporary Perspective
***We lack Vision really
***We are near sighted
***But we look really attractive to the world, intelligent on our views, we can even look spiritual… A Christian Worldview!

Having a “bad day” View of the World

This is typically when we try to have a “Biblical Worldview”
Things are not working out, tragedy comes, difficulties come and we reach for some different way to view things
Fire mask view of the world… it is good for emergencies or when the heat is turned up in life but not for everyday… What would people thing?

There is a Biblical Mandate to Have a Biblical Worldview!

This is not a good idea I came up with… God did and he has told us!
If I live my life by this Book… I will live differently!
I will speak about the verses as I go through them… Please wait to go to the next verse until the Passage is stated
It is good for Salvation… BUT OH SO MUCH MORE!
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 NASB95
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
Rightly handling God’s Word
2 Timothy 2:15 NASB95
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
In God’s Word states that His Word is profitable!
2 Timothy 3:16 NASB95
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
tells us that it is part of the armor! The SWORD… we are in battle. James will talk about who’s side we may be on.
Ephesians 6:17 NASB95
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
states God’s Word is living… it works in our lives!
Hebrews 4:12 NASB95
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
I can share need, commands, but it comes down to your heart
David was a man after God’s own Heart scripture says.
David shared his heart about God’s words in ; ; ;
Psalm 119:9 NASB95
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word.
Psalm 119:11 NASB95
11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
Psalm 119:105 NASB95
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Psalm 119:162 NASB95
162 I rejoice at Your word, As one who finds great spoil.

There is a Biblical Mandate to Have a Biblical Worldview!

This is important for each of us to know and understand as we begin James chapter 4
James 4:1–2 NASB95
What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.

Consider The Source!

James poses a question here and immediately gives us the answer
Looking at the world by any other way than a biblical worldview would lead us to look around for fault
God says look within!
Compared to the world how are you??? NO! God’s standard is what matters.
Christian worldview… doing okay
Culture worldview… I’m doing great
Christ worldview… I can and need to work on areas
Humility vs pride
is the thesis for the rest of the chapter.
There is pleasures… a constant awareness of our temptation to be double-minded.
Using two sets of glasses
Keeping the fire mask close by
See it our way and God’s… Hoping deep down He begins to see things our way!
You see… you and I are the source, our pride, our desires, our viewpoint… Rather than what God has to say.

What will you do with this information?

James 4:17 NASB95
Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

What will you do?

Are you going to transition from emergency mode to living each day with a biblical view of:
how you handle life situations and choices
how you make choices
how you view yourself
how you view the uncertainty in our world
OR are you going to leave here and keep living as if nothing needs to change?
