Introduction

A famous preacher of many years ago had a clock in his church that was well known for its inability to keep the time accurately. Sometimes too fast, sometimes too slow, it resisted all attempts to solve the problem. Finally, after its dubious fame became widespread, the preacher put a sign over the clock, reading, “Don’t blame the hands—the trouble lies deeper.”

The same is true of people: the real trouble lies deeper than what shows on the surface.1246

Who are homosexuals?

of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex

The Homosexual landscape has developed and changed within the past couple of years. The movement is part of a larger one called L.B.G.T.Q.I.A.
* Lesbian
* Bisexual
* Gay
* Transgender
* Queer
* Intersex
* Asexual
We cannot begin to help if we do not seek first to understand.
The word Homosexual was not a widely used until the 20th century. The earliest we see of actions that look like homosexual acts were from Greco-Roman period. The elite (rich) men and intellectuals would engage in same sex actions but there were usually never geared towards relationships. Their preference consisted of little boys who were usually discarded once puberty hit. Within the same culture you do not historically see lesbianism recorded as it would have been seen as demeaning for the men. So socially in the ancient world it was never really widely accepted, only for the rich and powerful men and intellectuals.
The OT portrays homosexuality...
Leviticus 18:22 NKJV
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
Man being with a man as he would be with a woman.
The NT portrays homosexuality...
1 Corinthians 6:9 NKJV
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
μαλακός
effeminate homosexual n. — a male who was the passive partner in a homosexual relationship; often of more feminine looking men or young boys.
ἀρσενοκοίτης
male homosexual n. — a male who commits sodomy with another male; sometimes of the active participant exclusively (as opposed to the passive).

What?

What Does The World Think About It?

The world sees it as LOVE.
The world does not see it as a choice.
The world sees it as genetic (“born that way”).
We see it in the news, on TV shows, commercials, school, etc. Ignoring it will not help anyone.

What Does God Think About It?

Leviticus 18:22 NKJV
22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
lev 18
Abomination- extreme disgust and hatred
Most “devout” Christians will point out this scripture as showing how God views homosexuality and their reasons for feeling so strongly about it as well. Let us take a look in context.
extreme disgust and hatred
Leviticus 18:19–23 NKJV
19 ‘Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness as long as she is in her customary impurity. 20 Moreover you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife, to defile yourself with her. 21 And you shall not let any of your descendants pass through the fire to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord. 22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. 23 Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.
lev 19
There are a lot more sins that are being committed by the folks in the land that the children of Israel are going to take over. God is telling them not to repeat their mistakes because they then will lose the land like they are. But then he says something to wrap it up. Check out V30.
Leviticus 18:30 NKJV
30 ‘Therefore you shall keep My ordinance, so that you do not commit any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the Lord your God.’ ”
Could it be that all sin is an abomination to God?
I believe the answer is YES!

What Type of Sin Is It?

1 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
1 Corinthians 6:15–20 NKJV
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Sin against your own body.
“No matter what you think of of people who commit this sin it is just as deplorable as the sin you try to hide that God sees clearly. Sin is SIN!”
Romans 3:23 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

When?

When Do We First See It In The Bible?

Genesis 19:1–4 NKJV
1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground. 2 And he said, “Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” And they said, “No, but we will spend the night in the open square.” 3 But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. 4 Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house.
Lot in Sodom...
Judges 19:22 NKJV
22 As they were enjoying themselves, suddenly certain men of the city, perverted men, surrounded the house and beat on the door. They spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring out the man who came to your house, that we may know him carnally!
The man who mistreated his concubine...

Where?

Where Does It Come From?

Romans 1:18–32 NKJV
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 1:26 NKJV
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
Romans 1:26 NKJV
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
πάθος
Passion- to experience strong physical desires, particularly of a sexual nature—‘passion, lust, lustful desire, to have lust.’
This was born from man not from God
* This was not planted by God, but God allowed them to believe a lie having a malfunctioning mind/heart V28.
Romans 1:28 NKJV
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
It comes from the mind of man.

How?

How Does It Affect The Individual?

Romans 1:28 NKJV
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
If you stay in this state chasing after passions/desires God will allow you to stay there and think that you are what you seek.
mind n. — that which is responsible for one’s thoughts and feelings; especially the seat of the faculty of reason.
δοκιμάζωc: to regard something as genuine or worthy on the basis of testing—‘to judge to be genuine, to judge as good, to approve.’
The word debased in the Greek work that would be akin to what we as a compound word. It begins with the Greek letter alpha, which points to the meaning that you are without what is about to follow. This is the root word. So basically God will allow you to have a MIND that cannot test or judge what is good! IF YOU CHOOSE TO KEEP CHASING.
“When we choose to willingly live in sin God will allow us to keep the hearts that will betray us and allow US to have OUR way.”

Conclusion

1 Corinthians 6:9–11 NKJV
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
“And such were some of you.”
Luke 4:18 NKJV
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

For two years the hydraulic earthquake stabilizers in the thirteen-story “Nuevo Leon” apartment building in Mexico City were left out of service. Then, unexpectedly, at 7:30 A.M. on September 19, 1985, a devastating earthquake shook Mexico City. The thirteen-story building began to sway. Without hydraulic stabilizers to cushion the shocks, the building continued to sway until finally a third of it broke loose at the foundation and fell over sideways. Another third came crumbling down, floor on floor, crushed like a tin can. Only one third was left standing. For fifteen days rescuers dug through the rubble to search for survivors. Unfortunately, for most, the results of neglecting the inner defects were tragic.

So it is with our inner spiritual life and sin. To neglect the one is to open ourselves to the tragic results of the other.1289
