In short, if they continue to reject him and try to interfere int he King, it will not modify the promise and the plan of God that are being fulfilled in his person and ministry.
God’s King and kingdom will stand, because they stand on the Word.
•We know that the Old Testament does not apply to our lives in the same way that it did to the Israelites.
So what exactly is Jesus getting at in this phrase?
•The sense here is that God’s character revealed in the Old Testament does not change and God’s promises in the Old Testament do not change.
They are fixed and final.
•Jesus is also telling them that their man-made modifications and additions to the Law are not valid.
If they continue to reject him and try to interfere with the King, it will not modify the promise of God.
He is not primarily making a defense as much as he is attacking the false ideas of his religious opponents.
He is telling them that their entire approach to God and a relationship with him is void to the very core.
They have missed the message of the Scriptures when they reject him as Israel’s Messiah.
•God’s King and kingdom will stand, because they stand on the Word.
There is no possibility for the Word of God to be changed or made ineffective.
The Word cannot be made null and cannot fail.
