Richard Jeffress
Why I do not preach about politics, or American exceptionalism.
1 John 4:
1 John 4:1–6 CSB
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming; even now it is already in the world. You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world. Therefore what they say is from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Anyone who knows God listens to us; anyone who is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.

I. God does not call you to be gullible.

You are not to accept every spirit.
Not every piece of news is worthy of our attention.
However we should pay attention when Crackpots use the name of God to further something not of God.
Richard Jeffress: God has given authority to Trump to destroy North Korea.
To better understand what is happening we need to understand the kingdom of God/Heaven.
The kingdom of God (Christendom) is a spiritual kingdom… At least right now.
Violence against a people group or nation will not issue in the kingdom of God.
The statement: “I am an American” has not bearing on the statement “I am a follower of Jesus Christ.”
John 13:35 CSB
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 4:21–24 CSB
Jesus told her, “Believe me, woman, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and in truth.”
Matthew 5:20 CSB
For I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 6:31–33 CSB
So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
Matthew 7:13–14 CSB
“Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.

II. God’s Spirit confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Philippians 2:9–11 CSB
For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth— and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Focus on the One Anothers
Philippians 2:3 CSB
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.
Romans 10:9 CSB
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

III. Reality Check: The Spirit of the AntiChrist is alive and moving today.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” - Edmund Burke
Romans 12:17–21 CSB
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. But If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. For in so doing you will be heaping fiery coals on his head. Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.
1 Peter 3:8–12 CSB
Finally, all of you be like-minded and sympathetic, love one another, and be compassionate and humble, not paying back evil for evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing, since you were called for this, so that you may inherit a blessing. For the one who wants to love life and to see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit, and let him turn away from evil and do what is good. Let him seek peace and pursue it, because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do what is evil.

In the age of Grace, God does not call us to fight with the sword.
We cannot ignore social injustice
And honestly, a dialogue does not always work.
We must learn, especially in today’s society, that the truth of the matter is rarely on the surface.
Usually it lies somewhere in the middle.
Racism is evil, on all fronts, and should never be justified in any circumstance.
The spirit of truth calls us to love, cherish and live in unity with one another.
God’s expectation from the beginning was for his followers to care for sojourners and aliens, to live in peace with all people we do not agree with.
