Intro

Think of a goal that can be achieved right then and how to set small goals to achieve the main goal
What is a goal you have for yourself?
People set all kinds of goals. Short term goals, long term goals, but what about a goal that last longer than a lifetime.
What is a goal that would last for eternity? would last forever?
Brining glory to God. Bringing glory to God is something we can do forever.
Glory means praise, honor, set apart because of greatness

Main Goal

With that in mind turn to Romans 11:36
With that in mind turn to
What belongs to God? glory forever
Look at
What is the command in that verse? glorify God in your body
Look at
In everything what are we supposed to do? Bring glory to God
So if this is our main goal what other goals do we set in order to reach our main goal?

Salvation

The first goal is believing and trusting in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sin and a relationship with God
Turn to
There is joy in heaven when one person, just one person is saved! When one person places their faith and trust in Jesus Christ!
If you are still separated from God and have been forgiven of your sin because you have never placed your faith and trust in Jesus Christ then you can glorify God tonight by doing just that. By understanding your sin, your need for a savior, and placing your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. That need to be your goal tonight.
Think about this if we are going to make macaroni and cheese you must first understand you need some supplies. Anybody ever like made your noodles and then go to the fridge and realize you have no milk? Thats an awful feeling because you don’t have what you need! You need a pot, water, macaroni, a stove, cheese, milk, butter, and more cheese! Without that you can’t make macaroni. Your first goal in your overall goal to make macaroni and cheese is to get your supplies!
In order for us to be able to glorify God there are some things we need. We need forgiveness of sin! We need Jesus to take the punishment of our sin so that we can have a relationship with God. We need the Holy Spirit so that we may have the ability to bring glory to God. All that happens when we believe and trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sin. Because Jesus Christ lived a sinless he was able to be a sacrifice for our sin. He was able to tale God’s punishment for your sin. He is able to forgive you and give you a relationship with God. And because he rose from the grave, came back to life, and went up into heaven the Holy Spirit can come live inside you which allows you to obey and honor God.
If we are going to glorify God we must first believe and trust in Jesus Christ.

Study

Our next goal is to study our Bible and understand it.
Turn to
If it is dark outside what does a lamp and light do for you? Helps you see, it guides you. What does the Bible, God’s word do for us? Guides us.
Turn to
What all is the Bible good? If we are going to bring glory to God we need to be taught, corrected when we are wrong, and trained so that we can bring glory to God.
Think about this: I am very musically challenged. You me a sheet of music with some notes and stuff on it and it looks like Chinese writing or something. I have no clue what it says! So say I want to learn how to play the piano am I just going to sit down and start playing? No! It would sound awful! It would sound something like this. I would have to study where the keys are at on the piano, what all these notes and lines mean, and all kinds of other music stuff! I couldn’t play the piano with studying.
We cannot bring glory to God is we don’t study our Bible. The Bible tells us how we can bring glory to God if we just study. So how do we do that?
First we must read. If you don’t read you can’t study it. This is observing. We are looking at what does the Bible say. Start small read five or ten minutes. Don’t try to read the whole Bible in a day because you won’t remember anything.
Second we review. We look over what we read again so that we can understand what it says. Why read if we aren’t going to try and understand. When we review there are three things to look for.
Promises - does God promise anything. For examples says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead you will be saved. That is a promise. Look at again. That is a promise from God that the whole Bible is useful to you and that it will help you and equip you.
Commands - is there something God is telling us to do? children obey your parents. What is the command? Obey your parents! Look at again. Do all for the glory of God. Does that sound like a command? If you find a command or promise write it down so that you can try to remember it.
Basic truths. These are things that we be sure are true. Kind of like facts of the Bible. For example: For all have sinned and short of the glory of God. This is a truth, it is a fact. Every person has sinned. Another example is In the beginning God created the heavens and earth. God is telling us a fact that he created the heavens and the earth.
Third we react. What does this mean for my life? What is God telling me to do, or change, or not do? If we read and review but don’t react to the Bible we haven’t been changed and each time we study our Bible we want to change so that we become more like Jesus, so that we can bring glory to God

Submit

Look at
What is the command in that verse? Submit to God
Look at
What are the commands in these verses? What is the promise?
If we want to bring glory to God then we must submit to him, we must obey him in everything. To submit means you are giving way to God. It means that you are not going to do what you want to but what God wants you to do. It means you are going to obey.
Think back to children obey your parents. If we are to submit to God then we must obey this command. When we obey our parents we bring glory to God because we are following his command and submitting to him.
Submitting to God is obeying what God commands. For instance in Jesus says the second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. If we are going to bring God honor by achieving our goal of submitting to him then we must be kind and respectful to all people. Not just our friends, but to everybody.
Think about this a horse submits to a bit. A bit is a metal bar in a horses mouth that is meant to guide the horse where you want it to go. If you pull left it puts pressure on the left side of the mouth and the horse turns and there is no pressure. If he turns right and doesn’t submit then there is more pressure. The best choice for the horse to submit. Our best option is to submit to God because by submitting and obeying God we bring glory to God. By disobeying him we sin against God.
The greatest example of submitting to God is Jesus. Look at
Jesus submitted to God’s will of going to the cross to suffer God’s punishment of all sin. Jesus wasn’t guilty, he had never sinned and therefore didn’t have to suffer punishment. But he submitted to God, he obeyed God and went to the cross, suffered God’s punishment for all sin and willingly died as our sacrifice so that when we believe and trust in Jesus Christ we may be forgiven of our sin and have a relationship with God. He finished God’s will by rising from the grave and going up into heaven. If Jesus submitted and obey God then we too must submit and obey God.
