* What a glorious day to come before the Lord and share in the most precious remembrance of the price that he paid for us.
* The Lord's Last Supper composes more than just the meal the 12 shared on the night that Jesus was betrayed, it also encompasses the whole of events of the next day.
After all the supper reminds of us the atoning death Jesus went to on Friday.
* If you will notice we have placed here in the sanctuary two wash basins.
You may be wondering why we have wash basins at the Lord's Supper.
Well, quite frankly, because the wash basin plays an important role in the last hours of Christ's life, and I submit to you today that you in your life and relationship to Christ are represented by one of the wash basins.
* What these two basins represent for us this morning is the view that you have as you come to the Lord's Supper today.
* Let's look at these two views:

The Basin on the Pedestal (Matt 27:19-24)
* Maybe you come here today and you are represented by this basin.
How?
* Read Matt 27:19-24.
* Pilate is an interesting case study in denial and outright rejection.
* What did Pilate know?
* That Jesus was righteous (words of his wife)
* That He is called the Christ
* That He was innocent
* Yet because of the pressures of this world he chose to walk to a basin and wash his hands in front of the crowd saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood; see to that yourselves."
* Is it that easy just to wash your hands of God's work?
Some of you may believe that it is.
* You see, Pilate came to the basin and with prideful arrogance examined Jesus, was fully aware of his innocence and possibly his diety and said, "I want nothing to do with this!"
* Some who join us in this service today say with their lives...
* I want nothing to do with this One who is called Christ."
* You, like Pilate, know about Him, know that He is the Son of God, know that He is the Savior of the world, know that He died for your sins, know that He was resurrected on the third day, and know that He lives today.
Yet, like Pilate, you say to the world, "I wash my hands of this man."

The Basin on the Floor (John 13:1-17)
* Just a few hours prior to the trial with Pilate we see another basin in Scripture.
Prayerfully you are represented by this basin this morning.
How?
* Read John 13.1-17.
* This act of Christ is, to me, one of the most humbling in Scripture.
Our Lord, One who was part of creating the world and everything in it.
One who raised the dead, gave the blind sight, and performed many other miracles.
One who one day will return to give us victory over sin, death, and Satan.
This powerful deity walked over to Peter got down on his knees and performed one of the most degrading jobs in a slave's repertoire.
* Jesus said, if I do not wash you you have no part with me.
Jesus washing of not only our feet but our very heart and soul ensures that we are joined with Him.
This happens when we accept him as Lord and Savior.
* Jesus set an example of servanthood (I washed your feet you wash each others feet).
* Jesus set an example of mutual love and servitude.
* You and I if we have come to know Christ as our Lord and Savior are counted as His friend, are washed by his blood.
* There are those of you here today who have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and you want to follow Him.
* And following him means you take upon yourself the humility and servanthood of one who stoops to wash the feet of another.
* Jesus told Peter, you don't have to take a bathe, just clean your feet.
For us that translates today as those of us who know Jesus don't need salvation, but rather sanctification, cleansing, and forgiveness of our sins before we take this meal.

* There are two basins here today as were there two basins present the day our Lord died for our sins.
* You are represented by one, but which one?
You cannot escape the fact that by your beliefs, your actions, and your commitment that you fall into one of these two categories.
* Every person will either submit to the Lord or respond as Pilate and wash their hands of his gift of mercy.
* We are going to have a time of invitation now and this is a two-fold invitation.
* if you have not made a decision to ask Christ to be your Lord and Savior, come down and receive Him. Receive the Salvation that Jesus offers.
* if you are a believer, invite Jesus to shine His light on sin in your life.
You need to get rid of it.
Let the Holy Spirit convict you of any unconfessed sin and prepare your heart to come to the Lord's Table.
