17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignationb, 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, 20 /Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

*Introduction:*
 
The disciples were following the instructions that they received to go preach the Gospel.
Like Jesus himself they had to deal with opposition.
They had to make a decision obey man or God.

I.         FACING OPPOSITION
 
The religious leaders had three reasons for arresting the Apostles and bringing them to trial.
*1*.
For disobeying the official orders to stop preaching in the name of Jesus Christ.
They were guilty of defying the law of the nation.
*2*.
The church was giving every evidence that Jesus Christ was alive, Sadducee's did not believe in the resurrection, /Acts 23:8 /
 
*3*.
At the great success of these untrained and unauthorized men.the religious leaders were filled with envy (“indignation”).

18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.

THE ANGELICAL COMMAND

They were freed not to go and hide, but to boldly return to the temple and continue to preach.
