Once on a missions trip I visited the head-waters of the Nile in Uganda

This little trickle grows into a large river that flows into the Mississippi River.
Rivers are sources of energy, transportation, drinking water, cooking, and a major economic influencer.
Gossip destroys churches, families, and communities

It’s amazing how much better electric appliances work when they’re plugged in.
Toasters, blenders, vacuum cleaners, power drills.
If they’re meant to be plugged in, the won’t work if they’re not.

If you want to build things.
If you want to save relationships.
If you want to know what really is going on so you can respond.

Jesus is the ultimate source of everything we need.
He is the source of Life, Power, Knowledge, Wisdom, and Love.
We are designed and built t/b plugged in to Jesus.
We don’t work right if we aren’t.
Not only does He provide for each of us individually, He provides for us so that we can help each other, too.
How do we know?

Feeding the 5000.

Context
Kingdom parables
A king? No.
The King.
The King of God’s kingdom.
He teaches things that are extraordinary.
Then He performs to prove that what He teaches is true.
Previous miracles
It doesn’t matter if your family and ancestors used to believe or not.
Maybe no one else in your family has every believed in Jesus.
Anyone can live if they come to Jesus as their King, Messiah, and Lord.
Woman w/ the hemorrhaging issue was like Israel.
Used to be alive, now dead.
But she lived again when she approached Jesus as her King.
Jairus’ daughter had been sickly since birth, now dead.
Like all Gentiles, really dead all their life.
But now the girl lives b/c her father approached Jesus as his King.
Jesus healed the 2 blind men so they could see things they had never seen before.
He delivered a mute man who could speak and say things he’ never said before.
Jesus will open your eyes so you can see what you need to see then do what you need to do and say what you need to say.
Now, the next 4 miracles go together to teach a bigger message.
Each one has it’s own point.

This is part of Jesus’ message at this point in His ministry.
He has been transitioning His message.
Jesus’ message now
Jesus has been rejected by Israel so now He’s focusing on 2 key points
Preparing the disciples for time when they will be continuing the work He started, building the Church.
Jesus will save anyone who comes to Him.
He’s not just the Jewish Messiah.
Jew or not, male or female, slave or free, middle-eastern or European or African or Asian, lighter or darker pigmented skin, tall or short, fat or skinny, athletic or musical or analytical or creative.
It doesn’t matter.
He will save you if you believe in Him.
Now, let’s get into this first of 4 miracles and see how Jesus communicates this message.
, it was the Passover.
This is the 3rd of Jesus’ time on earth.
Meaning, this is the end of the 2nd year and the beginning of the 3rd.
He is 1 year away from the cross.
Matthew 14:
As I’m talking about this keep in mind how many people were there.
5000 men, plus women and children.
1 woman for each man.
1.5 children per couple
17,500 people.
Picture a college basketball arena (concerts and conferences, too)
W/ this in mind, let’s get into it.
Suggestions ()
Jesus’ 1st: Let’s get away
JB had just been beheaded and there had been long days of ministry.
Emotionally spent, physically, worn out, needed a break.
Jesus showd compassion on the 12 by suggesting they get away for break.
You remember how He’s told ppl not to tell their story, yet.
The crowd is growing and it’s hindering what they can do.
No rest for the weary!
They can’t take a break, the ppl follow.
So, Jesus shows compassion by healing and helping them.
Another long day of ministry is winding down, it’s getting dark, they’re a ways out of town (no DQ’s or grocery stores), everyone is hungry and tired.
So, after all the compassion Jesus has shown everyone this day, the disciples have a suggestion, and there’s very little compassion in it.
The disciples’: Send them away
It’s practical.
There are small towns around but nothing close.
They need time to vacate.
17,500 ppl.
But, that this is their first suggestion.
