Awakening to a lifestyle of Prayer
Welcome CMC and Online
For those who have engaged in our 21 day season before i want to say thank you for your passion and excitement
For those whose first time is this season we are in right now—welcome to BASIC TRAINING
We have our marching orders—just look to the scripture:
(NLT)
2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
(NLT)
1 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people.
Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
(NLT)
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”
If you lean in and catch hold of whats happing here—your prayer life will never be the same
Lets talk about these prayer meetings at we enter week 3—in a book i was recently reading the author put it this way:
Using as our basis, we could consider the central all-church prayer meeting “Christ’s last command; our first responsibility.”
Praying first is our responsibly.
Consistently—Starts as a discipline—Turns into a Mission
A consistent and persistent lifestyle of prayer will start as a discipline but turn into a mission.
But it isn’t just about the prayer meeting.
God has called us—our very beings to be that house of Prayer and that involves all four levels of prayer:
"A dynamic praying church must be built from the inside out, employing all four levels of prayer: the secret closet, the family altar, small group praying and finally, the congregational setting.”
Richard Burr
These 21 days of prayer meetings are just one component to us being God’s access point.
What if after this season of 21 days Prayer corporately ends—personally it never ceases.
What if all of us made morning prayer like this a regular part of our lives.
Not a prayer life but A lifestyle of prayer
Whether you are watching online, CMC or right here.
We have the opportunity and choice to keep this going.
Many have mentioned we should just keep this ongoing.
Well then lets keep it!
You can create these atmosphere’s at home, in your secret place of prayer and worship.
You have the authority to see God move through you, through your prayers.
We always get up and joke before our 21 days of prayer about how early it is and that we will have coffee and we all laugh.
But what if come January there was no need to joke because for all of us engaging this past season have made it a way life?!
Like, sure I guess I will just drive into the Church and pray for these next 21days instead of going to my prayer closet
"When Christ ascended into heaven all He left behind was a prayer meeting.
The early Church didn’t have a prayer meeting; the early Church was the prayer meeting.
In fact, in the early Church every Christian was a prayer-meeting Christian."
–Armin Gesswein
The church is not a place—we are the Church.
And we need to be one of prayer—even more so outside these walls then only inside.
Turn to as we walk through verses 10-18
We see here the essential nature of prayer and the Armor of God
The armor of God is prepared for us.
But we must put it on.
And prayer is exactly that!
Prayer is the buckle that connects all of the different pieces of the Armor of God together.
(EXPOUND ON THIS)
It not only protects us but it makes us battle ready!
(NLT)
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil.
Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
(There will be a battle—but you will stand strong—solid—firmly)
14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.
16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.
Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Look at how the message translation lays out verse 18:
MSG
18 In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare.
Pray hard and long.
Pray for your brothers and sisters.
Keep your eyes open.
Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
You see the enemy wants you to feel defeated in your prayer life.
Whatever way he can convince you of that he will pursue
That is where a daily prayer life is so beneficial.
As I am regularly connecting with God through prayer I am less susceptible to the ploys of the enemy.
(I catch myself even laughing at the times he tries to trip me up.)
If you are wondering how to pray with that connection on a regular basis there is no quick path
    It take consistency—persistency—fluency
As you are regularly consistent it will be easier to persist and you will understand and recognize when connecting is truly happening.
illus: Weekly morning prayer times with Pastors—Has changed and is Changing my prayer life
"Every converted sinner is a soul revived to prayer.
Every saint restored from backsliding, is a soul returned to the life and power of prayer.
Every congregation enjoying an outpouring of the Spirit, is a congregation revived and alive to the prayer meeting.”
J.
B. Johnston
This quote show us that every passing moment is an opportunity to turn our prayer life around—No matter where you are at or where you have come from
You have heard us say to finish strong—and we are going to do that this week—i promise you!
But even if every single prayer request your started these 21 days with has’t been answered WE still have the ability to walk out of these 21 days changed.
And that is by transforming our daily lives by keeping this prayer movement going personally, in our groups and with our families and church congregation.
Can you imagine the things that God will do as hundreds of people engage on this level of prayer throughout the entire year?
HAVE THEMN STAND
Engage in prayer: Ask Holy Spirit to show you the things keeping you from a persistent and consistent prayer life.
Ask him to remind you to put on the armor of god and pray so that we will be ready when the battle comes.
Dismiss to personal time of prayer.
