A Close Encounter Through The Baptism In The Holy Spirit

Acts 2:1-40

A Close Encounter Through The Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

The Acts 2 Encounter

Conviction of a liberated future

God encountered the Church and the Church encountered God through the receiving of the baptism of the Holy Spirit on the Great Day of Pentecost.

Acts 2:1-13 (Encounter)

Acts 2:14-36 (Worship/Accomplishmen)

Acts 2:37-40 (Impact)

What does this passage say to me?  God encountered the disciples of Jesus with the promise of the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and accompanying manifestations so the kingdom might be extended.

What does this passage say to the needs of people in our time?  God will encounter us with the promise of the holy Spirit and accompanying manifestations, so that we might participate in the extending of the kingdom.

What is the bad news in the text?  People mocked God’s encounter with manifestations.

What is the bad news for our time?  People will mock genuine encounters with God.

What is the good news in the text?  God was bent on giving the filling of the Holy Spirit to the church.

What is the good news for our time?  God is bent on giving us the filling of the Holy Spirit.

I propose to help listeners understand God is bent on encountering His people through the filling of the Holy Spirit to the end hearers will seek the power of the Spirit to preach the gospel to the kingdom.

What shall we celebrate?  God’s determination to encounter us with the filling of the Holy Spirit.

How shall we celebrate our response to 6a?  The sermon.

What materials of celebration shall we use?  Thanksgiving.  Thank God for following me through generations—all the way from African—that He might give me the promise of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
