What is a Covenant?

The Wesleyan Bible Commentary, Volume 1, Part 1: Genesis–Deuteronomy a. The Fourth Promise—Seed as the Stars (15:1–21)

The Hebrew word translated made in verse 18 is literally “cut,” the practice being so general that “to cut a covenant” meant “to make a covenant.”62 Abram then watched over the prepared carcasses, driving away the birds of prey.
