1. Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Mystery of the Godhead: One God but 3 separate persons
In the Trinity, the father is the manager; the son is the lover of operations and Holy Spirit is the worker - so, it is the three - in - one, getting things done.
The world was created only by three functions: The father thought it, the son loved it, and the Holy Spirit carried out the plan.
The opening of the book of genesis introduce us to this mystery of the Godhead:
The Noun “elohim” translated God in this sentence is a plural noun but the verb “ba-ra” translated created, is a singular verb.
What this mean to us is this: as we read the bible, we will encounter a singular God but that is well manifested in 3 distinct person.
in verse 2 we read: “And the spirit of God was overing over the waters” - the first person of the Godhead that we encountered in the scripture is the Holy Spirit.
He was identified by name, he was there ready to carry out the will of the father..
please listen to what Jesus taught an autistic boy in heaven about the mystery of the Trinity:
In the Trinity, the father is the manager; the son is the lover of operations and Holy Spirit is the worker - so, it is the three - in - one, getting things done.
The world was created only by three functions: The father thought it, the son loved it, and the Holy Spirit carried out the plan.
~Josiah Cullen.
One more thing that I will stress before we go further is this: The holy Spirit is a Person, just like God the father and God the Son -Jesus Christ.
The only difference is that, he is a person without a body - that is why he is a spirit.
But he has all the attributes of a person: he sees, he speaks and so on.
Because he is without body does not mean he is lesser than the other persons of the Godhead… he has all the attributes of the Father and son.
2. The Holy Spirit is the one who carries out the plan of the father - he ensures that whatever the father commanded is done.
He is more Like a HELPER.
Jesus called him the HELPER.
In all of these passages, these greek word translated Comforter or Helper or advocate can be properly rendered as “Someone who is summoned to the side of another” to help him.
The Holy Spirit is summoned by God to our side as believers to perform these seven duties found in the meaning of the word PARACLETOS: he is summoned to be:
Be our comforter:
someone who helps you to feel less worried, someone who provides consolation.
Our counselor
A person trained to give guidance on all issues that pertains to life and godliness
Our Helper:
Someone who provides assistance or aide
Our Advocate:
someone who is constantly speaking in your defence, who is speaking in your favour
Our intercessor:
someone who intervene on your behalf, by praying for you the will of God.
Our Strengthener
someone who makes us stronger
and Finally, a standby.
someone waiting on us in readiness for duty
3. The Holy Spirit is an an Helper that always makes the impossibility possible:
The redemption of Humanity from the power of sin and the bondage of the devil was one classical example of how the Holy Spirit as an Helper carried out the humanly impossible purpose of God.
I have divided the process of our redemption into 3 major phases to clarify on the input of the Holy Spirit: 1) the virgin Birth.
2) the death of Jesus 3) the resurrection of Jesus and.
1.
The Virgin birth of Jesus:
According to human reality, it is impossible for a virgin to be pregnant and give birth to a baby - for such thing to happen, the law of nature necessitate the input of a man.
But, when the Holy spirit becomes involved, the impossibility becomes possible.
The reaction of Mary to the news that the angel of the Lord brought to her was humanly normal, but the answer of the angel was unconventional:
Please pay attention to the response of the Angel:
The angel answer and said to her:
the Holy Spirit will come upon you ( the plan of God will go through with the help of the Holy Spirit - his words will not return to him void)
the power of the most high will overshadow you ( The ministry of the Holy Spirit is always successful in dealing with impossibilities because, He is the Power of the Most High)
therefore the child to be born would be holy (The product of the helpful ministry of the Holy Spirit is always Holy)
The product of the helpful ministry of the Holy Spirit is always Holy.
The Holy Spirit incubates the word in the womb of the Virgin Mary, until he has transformed the Word into flesh.
john 1: 1
The virgin birth was impossible, but the Holy Spirit Made it Possible -that is the kind of Helper he is - he watches over the word of the Lord to perform it.
2 The Ministry and Death of Jesus
Jesus received divine help from the Holy Spirit to fulfill his ministry:
The anointing of the Holy Spirit on Jesus came upon him with Power to
heal and
deliver from the oppression of the devil
The anointing of the Holy Spirit on Him was the guarantee that God was sith hIm.
He offered himself in a sacrificial death through the help of the Holy Spirit.
3. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead
God raised Jesus from the dead through the help of the Holy Spirit:
this verse showed that God raised him from the dead
1
this verse showed how his resurrection became possible: it was by the quickening of the Holy Spirit - the Holy Spirit awakened his Spirit from death.
rom 1:
I
Note: before I cite this next example, let me say this - in the scripture there are many ways by which the Holy Spirit has been described: For instance
he was described as Wind:
john
2. he was described as water
there are other things that was used in the scripture to describe the move of the Holy Spirit:
Aside from Redemption: The Holy Spirit also helped in the wilderness in making the impossible possible… He blew as wind to bring the quail around the camp...
the word translated Wind in this verse was the hebrew word “Ruah”, That is the same root word for Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit blew as wind to make the impossible possible, if you recall Moses said to the Lord “to feed this people with meat is an impossible feat… But when the Holy Spirit blew as wind the impossible became possible - There was divine provision for the children of God in the wilderness.....
