Introduction:
Don was a very quiet man.
He did not have much to say, but when he spoke, it was important.
Psalm 90:9
If Don’s life could tell you a tale today, it would center on showing you how to have eternal life.
There are some in this room today, who know Christ, because Don brought you to church or invested in you some way and some how.
Some people believe that if you do not say much, your life doesn’t say anything.
Don’s life has been the direct opposite of that thinking.
In many ways, that is the reason he has made such an impact on many of you.
In fact tells us that a life lived (done) in faith is better than saying you have faith and doing nothing.
James 2
A time for everything
Since there is a time for everything and we live our lives as a tale to be told, the first reality is that all of us are born separated from God by sin.
All of us have this illness:
The reason that there is a time to die, is because of sin.
Otherwise there would be no death.
This is why we want eternal life.
Romans 3:23
Eccl.
3:
Jesus paid the price, so that death would not sting.
When the Bible asks, “Oh death, where is thy sting, Oh grave, where is thy victory,” it is declaring the truth that Don is not here in a box, his soul is lifted up to glory because he has eternal life.
The real question that Don is begging you to ask is, “how?”
A Time to Decide
On Monday I asked Edna if there was a Scripture passage that she and Don enjoyed together and she was able to mutter out, .
Probably the most well known verse in the Bible, but still the most powerful truth to learn and believe.
The love that God has for you and for me is so great, He sent His only begotten Son to pay the penalty of our sin.
This is the message of the Bible, this is the message that many of the people here saw in Don’s life and heard from him.
God is not making a relationship with Him difficult, in fact He has done all the work, all you must do is believe that He has.
2 Cor
Conclusion
Do you know today where you will spend eternity?
Not choosing Christ is as much a decision against Christ as a decision for Christ.
This is really what Don wants his life’s tale to say: Trust Christ!
If you do not know Christ as your savior, you can trust Him today, there in your seat.
If you are saying in your heart that you do believe Christ died for your sin and that you trust Him for forgiveness of all your past, present and future sin you can accept Him today.
I would just ask you to pray silently in your seat now, “Dear Lord, I know that I am sinner, I know that Jesus came to pay the penalty of my sin and Trust in Him wholly to forgive me and give me eternal life.
Please forgive me and save me.
Amen.”
If you did that today, you have eternal life.
By trusting in Jesus alone for forgiveness of sin you have said that nothing else can help you get to heaven.
If that is you, and you prayed today to accept Christ for forgiveness of your sin, I would like to pray for you.
If that is you, please raise your hand, I will not embarrass you, but I would like to pray for you today.
Please lift your hand.
Meal after the graveside service at the church.
