Unknown - what is in your life that is unknown?
I like to watch the show “This Old House”.
In later years, they would have a segment called “what is it” and would always have a bizarre or obscure tool that most people didn’t know about.
It was unknown to most, but to those who used it, it’s value was appreciated.
Last week we had the privilege to attend ABWE’s Missionary Enrichment conference from Monday to Thursday.
Tuesday very early in the morning Melanie woke up with the stomach flu and it was apparent that she would not be attending breakfast or the morning session.
I gathered the kids clothes, got them up and ready for the day and we went to breakfast.
I was watching Ethan making sure he didn’t spill his cereal milk and balanced two plates getting Emily and my breakfast.
I saw four serving dishes, Eggs, homefries, french toast and french toast that already had syrup on it in the serving dish.
I thought it would be easier to take the french toast that already had syrup for myself.
I also noticed that they had bacon in that serving dish and took some as well.
Ethan lost his cereal box from the serving table to the table we chose to sit at so I went back and got him another box.
I finished up my breakfast by cutting up and eating the french toast that already had syrup in the serving dish.
As I ate the french toast it was apparent that it wasn’t syrup and i thought maybe it was pre buttered.
The hotel staff was clearing plates off of the other side of the table and I didn’t want him to think I was not pleased with their pre syrup-ed french toast so I continued eating it.
I had about two bites left and decided I didn’t like it and there was no sense eating the rest.
later on that day i was telling Melanie the bizarre dish they had for breakfast and that they served the bacon in the same dish.
Then it hit me, they placed bread in the bacon serving dish to soak up the bacon grease.
The next morning they served sausage links..........the serving dish was lined on the bottom with bread to soak up the sausage grease.
The grease dripping technique was unknown to me.
Early on, I thought that the “french toast” was of no value, it’s purpose was unknown to me.
After I found out the purpose, I thought it was a genius practice.
My belly is still hurting, maybe from too much bacon grease.
Paul warns those in Athens about worshiping an Unknown God
Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.
23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
Please turn in your bibles to Psalm 107
Roddey Baptist, I know you are a church that has been taught the word of God and have a solid foundation, but do you truly know who God is or are you worshipping God just because you know it’s something you should do, or do you know the God that you worship?
Please stand and read along with me starting with verse 1.
I will be reading from the King James Version.
Pray with me as your seated
Lord as we look at your word today to see the difference from those you know you and to those you are unknown I ask that your Holy Spirit will give me the words to preach and give us the hearts and ears to listen to what it is you want us to learn.
If there is someone who doesn’t know you as their savior I ask that today they will go from someone to whom you are unknown to a known God their Savior.
Those of us who are saved, I ask that you would encourage us with your word today.
