She was open to this conversation…even though…it wasn’t quite normal.

A conversation ensues.
We learn quite a bit about this woman.
We learn that she is thirsty.
At first, she is thirsty for water.
She has to come to the well every day to get water.
The understanding is, because her life is such a mess, she comes when no one else is there…the heat of the day.
John 4:9
Perhaps she comes at that time because she doesn’t want to deal with her lifestyle choices, and what other people thing.
She comes because she doesn’t want to encounter anybody.
But here is Jesus.
He asks for a drink and she is surprised.
The conversation contiues and Jesus asks her to go get her husband.
Of course, she doesn’t want to get into it.
So she attempts to skirt the request by saying, “I have no husband.”
JEsus is intuitive and preceiptive.
John 4:
The convesation turns to a more spiritual/religious nature.
Worship…the prophets...
What happens next is amazing.
THis woman…this woman whose life is a mess…goes back to her city.
She goes back to the city that she was trying to avoid and told them about Jesus.
She tells them that he must be a prophet.
Who knows, she might have even told them about the conversation, about how he knew her.

You and Us
I didn’t dive into all of the nuances of the convestation.
What I hope was apparent was how the woman was open to this conversation and how the conversation turned into something much deeper.
She could have stopped the conversation at some point, but she continued to talk with Jesus, to explore what he was offering…water?
understanding?
new possiblities for her…and her city.

The woman did not shut off the conversation.
The woman was open to the new possiblites Jesus represented and bought.
