I AIM TO PLEASE – Hebrews 11:1-6; 12:1-2

The book of Hebrews’ purpose is to address the doubts of Jewish believers who were second guessing their conversion and to reveal to us the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ.
The Jesus Christ was God’s supreme revelation.
That is why in the opening of the book of Hebrews 1 the author states that God who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, who he had appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds; who being the brightness of His gory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by the inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
For no one can come to God except through the son, Jesus Christ.
That is why we must believe on the work that Christ did on the cross or ultimately we are still in our sins.
God wants to reveal himself to us and we experience God by having first a relationship with the son.
So to outline Hebrews one would find that Jesus is defined as:

Chapter 2:10  as the Perfect Man, Captain of our salvation, Captain leads the way
2:14 Jesus is the one who destroys the power of death, that is the devil

Chapter 3: Superior to Moses
Chapter 3-4 Superior than anyone else in the Jewish History
Chapter 5 as a merciful High Priest who understands our weaknesses, for he was in all points tempted, yet did not sin.
Being the High Priest he is always making intercession for us to the Father 7:25
He has made for us  a better covenant 8:6 The old covenant had imperfect priests who needed their own sins forgiven, but Jesus was sinless.
He is our Great Shepherd and is the author and finisher of our faith

What the devil has to do is to get us not to believe in Jesus.
That is why we would rather believe on everything else but Jesus.
Christians are seeking palm readers, tarot cards and astrology trying to get a blessing rather than going to God.
There are exhortations in this book to stop these believers from

·        Drifting from the things that they have heard (2:1-4)
·        Disbelieving the voice of God (3:7-14)
·        Despising the knowledge of faith
·        Devaluing the Grace of God(10:26-39)
·        Ultimately departing from Him who speaks (12:25-29)

Faith is complete and absolute trust in God.
Faith is the substance.
It is the title deed for what I have.
The old saints would sing I’m holding on and won’t let go of my faith

The opposite of faith is doubt.
Doubt is distrust, unbelief, to lack confidence in, a condition causing hesitation, or uncertainty.
Most people believe that God rewards them based on the way they live.
If I fast most, pray more, come to church more then God will bless me.
The bible states that he will not withhold any good thing to those who upright before him.
No, you are blessed because you believe God and take him at his word.
How do I get faith?
Romans 10:17- The bible teaches us that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
So no word no faith.
That is why you need to fight for the word.
I can’t keep going to a church when somebody preaches and you get nothing out of it.
I need the word, I can’t fight the devil al this week and get no word.
Tell somebody you need the word.
Paul had warned the church in Rome let God be true and every man a lie.
Be careful who you listen to.
Now Chapter 11 of Hebrews states that by faith God spoke a world into existence.
That the things that are seen were not made by things which are visible.
God out of nothing step out and created everything that you see.
The assurance of not having anything, yet having everything
I don’t have to see it to believe it.
– Master’s level of faith.
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
