GOD

WHAT IS GOD?

GOD IS A SPIRIT, WHOSE BEING, WISDOM, POWER, HOLINESS, JUSTICE, GOODNESS, AND TRUTH ARE INFINITE, ETERNAL, AND UNCHANGEABLE.

GOD IS A SPIRIT
John 4:24 ESV
24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The word “SPIRIT” generally denotes the idea of wind or breath. It is immaterial and invisible yet fully effectual in the workings of it’s being.
John 1:18 ESV
18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
John
The Holy Spirit is also the third person of the triune God.

HOW DID GOD CREATE MAN?

GOD CREATED MAN, MALE AND FEMALE, IN HIS OWN IMAGE AND IN KNOWLEDGE, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND HOLINESS, TO RULE OVER ALL OTHER CREATURES.

PROVIDENCE:

WHAT IS GOD’S PROVIDENCE?

GOD’S PROVIDENCE IS HIS COMPLETELY HOLY, WISE, AND POWERFUL PRESERVING AND GOVERNING EVERY CREATURE AND EVERY ACTION.

Nehemiah 9:6 ESV

SIN:

WHAT IS SIN?

SIN IS DISOBEYING OR NOT CONFORMING TO GOD’S LAW IN ANY WAY.

1 John 3:4 ESV
4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.
, ,
Sin first took place when Adam and Eve disobeyed and broke covenant with God in by eating the forbidden fruit.

FALL:

WHAT HAPPENED TO MAN IN THE FALL?

MAN FELL INTO A CONDITION OF SIN AND MISERY

, , , ,

CONDITION OF SIN:

WHAT IS SINFUL ABOUT MAN’S SINFUL CONDITION?

THE SINFULNESS OF THAT FALLEN CONDITION IS TWOFOLD. FIRST: IN WHAT IS COMMONLY CALLED ORIGINAL SIN, THERE IS THE GUILT OF ADAM’S FIRST SIN WITH IT’S LACK OF ORIGINAL RIGHTEOUSNESS AND THE CORRUPTION OF HIS WHOLE NATURE. SECOND: ARE ALL THE SPECIFIC ACTS OF DISOBEDIENCE THAT COME FROM ORIGINAL SIN.

Romans 5:12 ESV
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—

CONDITION OF MISERY:

WHAT IS THE MISERY OF MAN’S FALLEN CONDITION?

BY THEIR FALL ALL MANKIND LOST FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD AND BROUGHT HIS ANGER/WRATH AND CURSE ON THEMSELVES. THEY ARE THEREFORE SUBJECT TO ALL THE MISERIES OF THIS LIFE, TO DEATH ITSELF, AND TO THE PAINS OF HELL FOREVER.

John 8:34 ESV
34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
Ephesians 4:18 ESV

MUST WE REMAIN:

DID GOD LEAVE ALL MANKIND TO DIE IN SIN AND MISERY?

FROM ALL ETERNITY AND MERELY BECAUSE IT PLEASED HIM GOD CHOSE SOME TO HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. THESE HE FREED FROM SIN AND MISERY BA A COVENANT OF GRACE AND BROUGHT THEM TO SALVATION BY A REDEEMER.

Jeremiah 31:30–40 ESV
30 But everyone shall die for his own iniquity. Each man who eats sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge. 31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. 33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” 35 Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord of hosts is his name: 36 “If this fixed order departs from before me, declares the Lord, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before me forever.” 37 Thus says the Lord: “If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares the Lord.” 38 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when the city shall be rebuilt for the Lord from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate. 39 And the measuring line shall go out farther, straight to the hill Gareb, and shall then turn to Goah. 40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and the ashes, and all the fields as far as the brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be sacred to the Lord. It shall not be plucked up or overthrown anymore forever.”
Ephesians 1:4–5 ESV

THE REDEEMER

WHO IS THE REDEEMER OF GOD’S CHOSEN ONES?

THE ONLY REDEEMER OF GOD’S CHOSEN IS THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL SON OF GOD, WHO BECAME MAN. HE WAS AND CONTINUES TO BE GOD AND MAN IN TWO DISTINCT NATURES AND ONE PERSON FOREVER.

HOW WAS CHRIST HUMILIATED?

CHRIST WAS HUMILIATED BY BEING BORN AS A MAN AND BORN INTO A POOR FAMILY; BY BEING MADE SUBJECT TO THE LAW AND SUFFERING THE MISERIES OF THIS LIFE, THE ANGER OF GOD, AND THE CURSE OF DEATH ON THE CROSS; AND BY BEING BURIED AND REMAINING UNDER THE POWER OF DEATH FOR A TIME.

Acts 2:33–34 ESV
33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,

REDEMPTION PARTAKERS

HOW ARE WE MADE TO TAKE PART IN THE REDEMPTION CHRIST BOUGHT?

WE TAKE PART IN THE REDEMPTION CHRIST BOUGHT WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT EFFECTUALLY APPLIES IT TO US.

Titus 3:4–7 ESV
4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:4 ESV
4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,

HOLY SPIRIT APPLICATION

HOW DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT APPLY TO US THE REDEMPTION CHRIST BOUGHT?

the spirit applies to us the redemption christ bought by producing faith in us and so uniting us to christ in our effective calling.

*effectual calling is the work of God’s Spirit, whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ and renewing our wills, he persuades and enables us to embrace Jesus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel. (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

JUSTIFICATION

WHAT IS JUSTIFICATION?

JUSTIFICATION IS THE ACT OF GOD’S FREE GRACE BY WHICH HE PARDONS ALL OUR SINS AND ACCEPTS US AS RIGHTEOUS IN HIS SIGHT. HE DOES SO ONLY BECAUSE HE COUNTS THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST AS OURS. JUSTIFICATION IS RECEIVED BY FAITH ALONE.

Romans 5:19 ESV
19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
Galatians 2:16 ESV
16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

SANCTIFICATION

WHAT IS SANCTIFICATION?

SANCTIFICATION IS THE WORK OF GOD’S FREE GRACE BY WHICH OUR WHOLE PERSON IS MADE NEW IN THE IMAGE OF GOD, AND WE ARE MADE MORE AND MORE ABLE TO BECOME DEAD TO SIN AND ALIVE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Romans 6:12–14 ESV
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
