The Glory of God seen in Creation

Psalm 19:
Psalm 19:1 HCSB
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.
Glory - “Kabode” that which is impressive or weighty about God.
God’s Glory is seen in Creation of the Universe
Psalm 19:2–3 HCSB
Day after day they pour out speech; night after night they communicate knowledge. There is no speech; there are no words; their voice is not heard.
God’s Glory in Creation is Constant & Consistent
Though it is a Non-verbal message it is a message with Content
Story of Antony Flew
“I now believe that the universe was brought into existence by an infinite intelligence. I believe that this universe’s intricate laws manifest what scientists have called the Mind of God. I believe that life and reproduction originate in a Divine Source. Why do I believe this given that I expounded and defended atheism for more than half a century? The short answer is this: this is the world picture, as I see it, that has emerged from modern science.” Antony Flew as quoted by Lee Strobel in “Case for a Creator.” Lecture at Saddleback Church, 2007
Psalm 19:4–6 HCSB
Their message has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a groom coming from the bridal chamber; it rejoices like an athlete running a course. It rises from one end of the heavens and circles to their other end; nothing is hidden from its heat.

The Glory of God Seen in God’s Word

Psalm 19:7 HCSB
The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise.
Instruction (Torah) - The Law. The first 5 Books of OT. Picture of Morality. Occurs 25 times in Psalms. In some settings it can refer to all of OT scripture. Note that God’s Law is Perfect: not lacking anything, complete, no flaw in it. And it’s result is Renewal !
Testimony - (Ee-doot) It is a solemn attestation, a declaration of God’s will. God’s Word not only reflects God’s Will but his Character. Picture of Purpose. Note: it is trustworthy (faithful & true) and results in Wisdom.
Psalm 19:8 HCSB
The precepts of the Lord are right, making the heart glad; the command of the Lord is radiant, making the eyes light up.
Precepts - (Pee-coo-deem) rules of personal conduct, principles to live by. Picture of Restraint. Note that they are Right …they conform with Righteousness and Moral law. The result is Heart Gladness....because in following them one is Right with God!
Command - (Meets-vah) An authoritative decree. Picture of Authority. Note that it is Radiant…it lights up the darkness. Result is that Eyes are Lit Up… Comprehension of what is the right path.
Psalm 19:9 HCSB
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous.
Fear (yeer-rah) - God’s Word demands Profound Respect. Picture of Awe. Note that it is Pure…ethically clean. The result is that which is done in the Fear of the Lord endures forever…the results will never tarnish or fade away.
Ordinances (Meesh-pot) - a Judicial decision that constitutes a precedence… a binding law. Picture of Precedence. Note they are reliable…trustworthy and dependable. The result is Righteousness.
Psalm 19:10–11 HCSB
They are more desirable than gold— than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey, which comes from the honeycomb. In addition, Your servant is warned by them; there is great reward in keeping them.
Psalm 19:10-11
Psalm 19:10
Psalm 19:10 HCSB
They are more desirable than gold— than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey, which comes from the honeycomb.
Nothing is more valuable than God’s Word. It is more than His Rules…it is His Self-Disclosure.
Hebrews 1:1–2 HCSB
Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways. In these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son. God has appointed Him heir of all things and made the universe through Him.

God’s Glory Seen in a Transformed Life!

Psalm 19:
Psalm 19:12–14 HCSB
Who perceives his unintentional sins? Cleanse me from my hidden faults. Moreover, keep Your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule over me. Then I will be innocent and cleansed from blatant rebellion. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
We give God great Glory by our transformed lives!
