#Why is this important?
a.
Our sins have separated us from a just and holy God
b.
Our salvation depends on someone reconciling us to God
c.
We can’t do it ourselves, since to do so would require a salvation by works (Eph 2:8,9)
d.    Requires a go-between, a “mediator”, to bridge the gap
                                                   i.
Mediator must be able to relate to both parties
1.     Must be divine, so that his sacrifice would have sufficient value for all of mankind.
Otherwise even a perfect sacrifice would only atone for one person
2.     Must be human, so that he could represent us before God
                                                 ii.
Jesus is our mediator - 1 Timothy 2:5  For /there is/ one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
                                               iii.
So Jesus must be both God and man in order to fulfill his role in our salvation
e.     Deity of Christ therefore is a cornerstone of the Christian faith
f.
Without it the whole structure of our belief system falls apart
g.
Those who reject deity of Christ cannot therefore be truly Christian
