Summer At Connect 2017_pt7: Walk In the Spirit

James 1:16–17 NIV
Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
There is a gift I want to speak of today.
It’s the gift that encompasses all gifts...
It’s the gift necessary for us to lives as Paul instructed...
Ephesians 5:8–10 NIV
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.
And here is where he gets down to business...
Romans 8:14–15 NIV
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
Some scriptures on the Holy Spirit:
() ““The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
() “ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
() “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”

Walking in the Spirit

Walking in the Spirit =
walking in a different way...
walking by a different power...
Galatians 5:16–17 NIV
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
[PAYOFF] - The Church has been given a gift - a Helper...
To allow us to walk a different way, by a different power.
WE MUST WALK IN IT!
To help us do so, we’ve got to understand some things...

I am not the same.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corint

I’ve got His power.

Disciples asked if His second coming will restore the Kingdom. He said “it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Fathers has put in His own authority”...
Acts 1:8 NIV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
We don’t always need to know His plans...
But, we have his power to live and serve His kingdom RIGHT NOW!

I carry His presence.

John 14:16 NKJV
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
John 14:16–18 NKJV
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:
This Spirit lives in you! He goes with you!
Do you understand the power we have with us, at all times???
John 14:25–26 NKJV
“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
“Spirit-led” or “Spirit-filled” is not so much about worship styles or preaching styles...
it’s about how we live our lives
“Spirit-led” or “Spirit-filled” is not so much about worship styles or preaching styles...
it’s about on what we put our minds!
it’s about how we live our lives
it’s about on what we put our minds!
it’s about what empowers us!
it’s about what empowers us!
[SO] What do I need to do to live a Spirit-led life?...
[SO] What do I need to do to live a Spirit-led life?...

Live a Spirit-led Life!

Romans 8:5 NIV
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
“Spirit-led” or “Spirit-filled” is not so much about worship styles or preaching styles...
it’s about how we live our lives
it’s about on what we put our minds!
it’s about what empowers us!
[SO] What do I need to do to live a Spirit-led life?...

Remove all barriers!

Remember, I’m not the same – so why continue to live the same…
Remove those barriers
sin,
habits,
old ways of thinking…
Acts 2:38 NIV
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Repent – turn completely from it…
Baptized – dead to old, alive to new!

Request the gift!

Don’t know how to receive? Ask!
Don’t feel worthy of receiving? Ask!
The Disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.
He gave them the “Lords Prayer.”
Then He told a parable about a man going to his friend at mid-night to borrow some bread.
(v9-10) “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
[PAYOFF] - Have you asked to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in your life?
Luke 11:11–13 NIV
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
[PAYOFF] - Have you asked to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in your life?

Relate to Him daily!

2 Corinthians 13:14 The Message
The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.
This relationship should be a daily, intimate thing!

Take Away

2 Corinthians 3:17–18 NIV
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians

Walking in the Spirit is walking in freedom!
