Introduction

Responsibility is a major proponent of leadership. Typically the effectiveness of any leader is dependent upon how responsible and how accountable the leader allows him or herself to be. For this lesson’s purposes we will be looking at verse 48. In context the message prescribed by Jesus is that of responsibility. It is one thing to do and not know but it is far worse to know and not do.
The Gospel should compel us to work harder, not slack because we know the truth. Verse 47 states that the slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes. With anything given there is a responsibility to take care of it.
Responsibility rest on those who have recieved much.
Let us not add conditions to our responsibilities. Regardless of what God has called to do within the confines of the church. We all have the responsibility of being good stewards of our salvation.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
Understand the fact that if we are not responsible over what we have been entrusted with, not only is it sin but it will also bring about greater punishment.
Given - in this text means to be presented with such a gift that it is required that we take good care of it.
“Will be required” to be in active pursuit of the will of God.
You are entrusted, God has provided for you so you can provide for someone else. In it’s literal sense it is normally used to refer to food, or placing something in front of someone.

Absolute Moral Ignorance Does Not Exist

Understand that we all have been given something. The idea that a person is completely oblivious for simple moral standards is false.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Even without absolute teachings our conscience was created to work in a manner that allows us to comprehend certain rights and wrongs.
For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves.  Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
Ignorance or the willingness to refuse to know and understand is sin as well.
The overall goal is the fact that we are blessed but we should not minimize the importance of God’s purpose for us. God’s servants must pursue the will of God as all cost because we are all held accountable.
