Every Good Story needs a back story. How many of you know who i am referring to when I say the Prince of Egypt?
The answer is Moses. We are starting a new series on Moses’ life and what God did through his life.
What can you tell me about Moses? (Break into groups and write down everything you know about Moses)

As you will find out, Moses is an interesting man who had been through a lot in his life. He had a past that he wasn’t proud of, he had problems he did not like to bring up. He was an average person just like you and me.
At times, i think we can assume the people in the Bible are some extra holy, extraordinary person, but when you begin to study them and read about them. They are just like you and me.
They have issues. They make mistakes. They need God just as much as I do. They are just like us.

Who here knows who Joseph is? And no, I am not talking about Mary’s husband Joseph. I am talking about the Joseph of the Old Testament. Does anyone know who he is.
HINTS: 1) He had a coat of many colors
2) He has 11 brothers
3) He brothers sold him into slavery
4) he worked as a slave for the guy over the military
5) he was in jail, but could interpret dreams
Joseph was an Israelite and by God’s divine hand, he ends up going from slave, to being in prison, to being the second in command of all of Egypt.
Joseph is reunited with his family and they move to Egypt. It started with about 70 of them, then they began to grow in population within Egypt.
Exodus 1:7-
But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them.
Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves.
Time Goes on and this new king as no real idea of how the Israelites Got to Egypt in the first place and he begins to see them as a threat and makes them slaves.
But if you look at verse 12, it says “but the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel.” Even when they were oppressed and were in slavery God Blessed them
