Don’t You See

Seeing with the physical eye is much different than seeing with the spiritual eye.
A person may see His Word - Physical
But this dosen’t mean that they see Him! - Spiritually
One can have 20/20 physical eyes but still be blind.
Last week
in verse 15, How did you receive your eye sight?
John 9:15 ESV
So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”
He put mud on my eyes.
They didn’y beleive him, so they asked his parents. vs 20
John 9:20 ESV
His parents answered, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.
then in verse 26, They asked him again trying to catch him in a lie.
John 9:26 ESV
They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”
vs 34
John 9:34 ESV
They answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.
They could not find a explanation for this, they could not explain what happened,
So they cast him out!
vs 35
John 9:35 ESV
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
Jesus had heard what they had done to the man, they had cast him out.
In todays culture, not a big deal at all,
People just go to the next church,
But in this day, this is a huge thing,
Being cast out of the synogue meant several things that were big problems for this man.
1. this man had no way to be blessed by God any longer
had no way to pray to God any longer.
2. No one would do busniess with this man ever again as a result to being cast out.
How would he live, eat, but food, obtain clotheing or shelter.
the mans family would consider him as dead!
Being put out of the church today has no big impact.
but dont miss this in verse 35
John 9:35 ESV
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
Two very important words,
Jesus heard,
Jesus heard what had happened to this man.
Jesus knew exactly what had happened. Jesus knows what others do to you, and He also knows what you do for others too!
Jesus hears when people put you out.
Jesus knows when people mistreat you.
Due to your relationship with Him.
When this happens,
You can expect this to happen, Jesus will come to you and comfort you, just as He did with this man.
John 9:35 ESV
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
having found the him,
You know i see something here in this
We often will say, when I found Jesus.
I understand what people mean when they say this,
But in reality,
Jesus found you! Jesus found me!
This is kinda profound here in this verse,
If no one eles wants you, Jesus wants you, He says I will take you.
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, Jesus went looking for this man.
I bet your bible dosent say this , Jesus went lookig for this man,
But it does say that haveing found this man, implies that Jesu went looking for him.
Luke 19:10 ESV
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke
Jesus came to seek, to look for you and me,
To find us, and to save us. the lost.
Adam and Eve sinned, and God came looking for them.
Ge
Genesis 3:9 ESV
But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
in vs 11 the blind man recognized Jesus as a man.
John 9:11 ESV
He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed and received my sight.”
in vs 17 the man recognized Jesus as a prophet.
John 9:17 ESV
So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
But here in verse 35, we see that Jesus went looking for this man so that he would know who He is!
John 9:35 ESV
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
this was for the purpose to complete this mans salvation.
This is essential for salvation!!!!!!!
Some have had Jesus touch them, to heal them, to make provisions for them and yet still not be saved!
vs 35
John 9:35 ESV
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
Do you beleive in the Son of God? in the Son of man?
Same thing,
Fully God yet fully man!
Why is this so important?
Fully God and Fully Man
Fully man in human flesh to be able to fulfill the law of God by dying for our sins. Only man could do this.
As God as He is to be worshipped!
Jesus can take a hold of God and man and link them together, all through the cross!
This is why He had to be fully God and fully man!
All in order to be able to reconcile us back to God!
in verse 35, Jesus asked this,
Do YOU, you meaning this man,
but is asking this same question this very day,
Do You Believe, not man but the Son of God!
vs 36 we see questions?
John 9:36 ESV
He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?”
here in verse 36 we see this man asking the right questions?
Who is He Sir?
Maybe you have the word Lord here in your bible, the correct translation here for us to understand would be sir,
When we see the word Lord, we think of God the Father, God the Son, but it dosent mean this here.
In England men are often refered to as Lord, meaning sir!
Do you..... believe in the Son of man? Who is he Sir that I may believe.
In Verse 2
John 9:2 ESV
And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
Why is he blind the disciples asked.
in vs 10
John 9:10 ESV
So they said to him, “Then how were your eyes opened?”
The people wanted to know, How were his eyes opened!
People miss it all to often,
Its not about Why, or about How , but rather its all about Who opened his eyey!
also, note this in verse 36,
John 9:36 ESV
He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?”
who is it that I may believe.
This man is not a believer yet!!!!
But he sure is asking the right questions!
Its so important that we stay focused of Jesus, because so many times we get run down a rabbit trail and loose focus of Jesus.
Its easy to go down a rabbit trail on the whys and the hows insted of focusing on Who Jesus is and why He came, in what He came to this earth.
People will ask you questions that will take your focus off of Jesus.
John 9:37 ESV
Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.”
You have seen Him, and you are now talking to Him!
For the very first time this man is seeing the one who opened his eyes!
He is seeing Jesus, how does this man respond to this?
vs 38
John 9:38 ESV
He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
Lord, I Believe and worshipped Him!
before, Jesus was just a man, then He was a prophet, then in vs 36 He was a sir, but here in vs 38, He is Lord!!
Notice the sequence of events here,
the man believed,
Lord!
then he worshiped Him!
A person can believe that Jesus as a man
A person can believe Jesus as a prophet as the muslims do,
You can even believe Jesus to the Point of calling him Lord as in Sir,
A person can believe in all three of these things and still not be saved!!!
Its not until Jesus is the Lord of your Life and that you Worship Him that you are saved!
This is when salvation is complete.
To worship is to show adoration and affection for,
To prostrate ones self before the Lord.
To turn and kiss.
These are the definition for worship.
Where are you in your worship of Jesus?
Worship for what Jesus can do for you isnt worship,
This isnt worship, its manipulation,
We dont worship Jesus for what He can do for us, we worship Jesus for who He is, The Son of God!!
Matthew 20:20 ESV
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something.
This mother fell to the feet of Jesus only because she wanted something from Him.
This woman is worshipping Him, but for the purpose to get something from Him.
True worship dosent come from a piano, guitar, band, worship leader or pastor,
True worship only happens when you see Jesus!
Lord I Believe.
Ones who have seen them selves as blind but now can see are the ones who Worship Him!
To many people use church and worship as a way to butter God up to before they are hitting Him up! all because they are in need of something from Him.
People are manipulators but God sees this.
People are not wrong to bring request to God, He wants us to do this, but we are wrong if this is the only time we are worshipping Him.
People come to the altar in prayer asking the Lord for something,
Come to the Altar and Worship jesus for who He is!
When Jesus gives sight, People will worship Him just as the man did here in verse 38
Nor for what He did for him, but for who He was, The Son of God!
Vs 39
John 9:39 ESV
Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”
some will say this verse is a contradiction, but its not at all, only on the surface.
John 3:17 ESV
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
John 12:47 ESV
If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
what is Jesus saying here in vs 39?
a Paradox of Revelation is what the theologians call this.
Jesus said He came into this world in order that the blind would see
and
the ones who claim to see would be made blind!
This is what is all about, a man who was born blind and couldnt see and was made to see,
Then we have these proud releigious leaders who claim to see, but was made blind,
So Jesus can say for Judgement I came into this world, to bring salvation to this world, but not everyone will receive this salvation and will bring judgement on to themselves.
This is the same as the parables,
The purpose of the parables was to reveal truth but at the same time to conceal it.
The purpose of His coming is to bring salvation, but when people reject it, it brings judgement on themselves.
Some of the relegious leaders are still around listening to what is being said, how do we know this?
vs 40
John 9:40 ESV
Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?”
are we also blind they asked...
certainly we arent blind are we, this is what they were asking Jesus.
We the religious leaders. Not Us!!!
Matthew 7:21–23 ESV
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Religious people hear these words and say, yep their will be some like that, but THATS NOT US!!!!!
The religious leaders are saying we arent spiritually blind.
I am reminded of
Romans 12:3 ESV
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
You can see a religious spirit, from a mile away I can see it.
They will listen to a teaching not to allow God to speak to their lives but rather to grade the speaker, to find fault, to argue.
How did Jesus answer the religious leaders,
vs 41
John 9:41 ESV
Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.
If you were really blind, you would not be held accountable, but because you say you see, your sin remains.
Sin remains,
Their sin was unbeliefe and the rejection of Jesus Christ as the Son of Man, The Messiah
Whe we hear of a bad person, a person that has done horrible things dies, we say things like they are burning in hell now for all that stuff they did.
We will often hear it said that they will burn in hell for that,
People dont go to hell for murder, stealing and curseing cheating,
When in reality, their is only one sin that will send one to eternal hell, dis-beliefe in Jesus Christ, the rejection of Jesus Christ .as the Son of Man.
John 16:8–9 ESV
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
9
John 16:8 ESV
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
John 16:9 ESV
concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
That is the sin that will send one to hell.
The Sin that The Holy Spirit is convicting the world of is the sin of rejecting Jesus Christ
I have heard it called practical atheism,
This means one professes Jesus as Lord but lives their life as though He does not exist!
This is called the sin of un-beliefe,
You either are living for Jesus or you aren't!
This is the sin of unbelief.
Worship isnt when the music starts,
Worship is a lifestyle! not a act that we do.
Worship is a lifestyle! not a act that we do.
Worship isnt to get something,
True Worship is a result of Who Jesus is.
When we are cast out, rejected for Jesus, Know that Jesus will come, He will seek you out and He will find you.
Has Jesus found you? Have you seen Him?
