The Confidence of Discipleship

DT: Jesus desires His disciples to to be confident in the work of the Holy Spirit.
Aim: We will lives trusting the promise of Christ that His Holy Spirit will guide and comfort us.

1. We Are Not Alone

- Christ did not leave us alone
- He has given us the presence of His Holy Spirit.
- Jesus assures us that the Holy Spirit is with us
ILLUS: Went to the fair with my parents. somehow I got away from them and became distaught and panicing because i thought they had left me alone.
Transition: As believers we need not be distraught nor panic. We are not alone. Christ sent us help in the work of the Holy Spirit.
Application: Stand confidently with joy knowing that the Holy Spirit is with us.

2. We Are Lost Without The Holy Spirit

ILLUS: GPS is used to get us from point A to point B. It guides us when we listen to our destinations. If we miss a turn the GPS will often say rerouting and please make a legal U-turn when possible.
Transition: The Spirit in many ways functions like that in the life of the Christian
- His job is to guide us (follow this route)
- His job is to convict us (make a u-turn)

3. We Are Under The Authority of The Holy Spirit

- Yes He is under the authority of Christ
- His responsibility is to influence us
-
Ephesians 5:18 ESV
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,
ILLUS: The person who is under the influence of wine doesn’t speak the same . . .
