Godly Man

Pastor Steve shared a wonderful Bible study at the fishing hole yesterday. He pointed out that to be a good father you must take your cue’s from your Heavenly Father, God.
Micah 6:8 NIV
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

This verse stands as the motto of the alcove of religion in the reading room of the Congressional Library in Washington.” Politicians have quoted it often in their election campaigns (if only more would practice it!).

This verse stands as a motto of the alcove of religion in the reading room of the Congressional Library in Washington. I wish the politicians would practice it more. I wish you and I would practice it more.
Men, what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. As the young kids would say - BOOM!
When that verse says to “walk humbly” it is talking about the way you live.

Godly Husband

Before we dive into scripture I just want to make something perfectly clear…I am not going to be politically correct today. What will be stated today is not a political statement but a Biblical statement. Not my opinion, because my opinion doesn’t matter, but what scripture says to be true.
John 3:16
Genesis 3:16 NIV
16 To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
I know this is Father’s day but please stay with me. Many wise men poured wisdom into me when Melinda and I decided to start having children and they all told me that the 2nd best thing I can do for my children is to love their mother. The 1st of course is pointing them to Christ!
I know for many in our world today (no one here of course), the words “rule over” caught your eye.
“Ain’t no man gonna rule over me!”
Let me say straight up, for you single women here looking for a man. You want a Godly man and a Godly man will rule over you. BUT there is a proper way to do that.
משׁל
משׁל
pronounced mashal
definition - to rule, to make someone lord, dominion
Ephesians 5:21–25 NIV
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
,
Ephesians 5:33 NIV
33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Colossians 3:18–19 NIV
18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Colossians 3:19 NIV
19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Colossians 3:
women and wives - If a man is loving and serving you as Christ loved and served the church - you want this man to rule over you.

Godly Father

Be a Godly Man. Be a Godly Husband. Now that brings us to being a Godly Father. What does it mean to be a Godly Father?
Colossians 3:20–21 NIV
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Colossians 3
A very similar passage in Ephesians.
Ephesians 6:1–4 NIV
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Paul is the author of both of these books of scripture.
is a summary of instructions to the father, stated in both a negative and positive way. The negative part of this verse indicates that a father is not to foster negativity in his children by severity, injustice, partiality, or unreasonable exercise of authority. The word “exasperate” means “to irritate, provoke, rub the wrong way, or incite.” This is done by a wrong spirit and wrong methods—severity, unreasonableness, sternness, harshness, cruel demands, needless restrictions, and selfish insistence upon dictatorial authority. We should never make them feel that they cannot possibly please their parents. A wise parent seeks to make obedience desirable and attainable by love and gentleness.
A man of God must never make it to be that he is the ultimate authority.
The first responsibility of a father is to point his children to Christ as Lord and Savior.
He must do this by modeling.
You watch me do it.
I help you do it.
You do it on your own.
