Doing Church vs. Being Church

People talk about “going to church” or what happened “at church today.”

Those are all kind of misnomers.

The problem is we begin to identify Christianity as the sum total of what happens in an auditorium two hours a week rather than as an identity issue of the individuals and the community of those who have gathered to worship.

Focus On The Family (Article)

If a church fails to fulfill any of these key roles - worship, edification, evangelism - then the church is not functioning as God intends.

Granted, there are times when churches face challenges and struggles to one degree or another, but a healthy church seeks to overcome such challenges in a way that honors God and His intentions for His church.

A Biblical Look Of Balance

Deut

Deuteronomy 6:

You shall teach them diligently to your children - Teach What? ___________________________________________________________

You shall talk of them: (What is the them)

When you rise _____________________

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand _________________

They shall be frontless between your eyes ____________________

The words of God were to be bound for a sign [a memorial or directory] upon thine hand, the instrument of acting, and to be as frontlets [fillets or bands] between thine eyes, the organs of direction in walking or moving, and so on the forehead, the chamber of thought and purpose.

And write them on your gates ________________________

- If we talk about balance with family and doing church, I think we could have a good discussion…

- If we talk about balance and being the church, then our perception/definition of balance should change…

The biggest problem with creating balance is understanding the root of your influences…
