18 “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.
Right from the start we see that being friends with God will help us endure the worlds hate.
WE also see that being a friend of the world is an enemy to God.
I told you it was going to get messy tonight.
John is talking about our organized society that is hostile to God because Satan has power over it.
Remember the world tried to kill Jesus at birth with Herod.
19 The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world.
I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.

You need to know that Jesus is plainly saying here, “The world hates you.”
One of the reasons it hates you is because now your different.
It doesn’t take long when you decide to get clean and go around them old friends, its uncomfortable.
You begin to ask yourself…is this what Im about?
The best part is God can use that disgust of who you used to be as a means of distancing you from the old crowd.
See you have left that kingdom of darkness and God has transplanted you into his kingdom as his son.
You have a new purpose.
joy, purpose, hope, and love.
You now have certainty, truth, and a standard for life.
