Worldliness

Alright, were going to jump right in on some accountability questions. Because I believe God is going to open our eyes to some truth tonight. I believe the Holy Spirit is going to teach us and move us to repentance. Not because of me, but because God is awesome and he wont let us sit in our comfort zone.
7524 Which Disturbs You Most?
A soul lost in Hell … or a scratch on your new car?
Your missing the worship service … or missing a day’s work?
A sermon 10 minutes too long … or lunch half hour late?
A church not growing … or your garden not growing?

Your Bible unopened … or your newspaper unread?
The church work being neglected … or housework neglected?
Missing a good Bible study … or your favorite TV program?

Kill all that Worldliness

The millions who do not know Christ … or your inability to keep up with the neighbors?
The cry of the multitude for bread … or your desire for another piece of German chocolate cake?

Kill all that Worldliness

Your tithes decreasing … or your income decreasing?
Your children late for Sunday school and Church … or late for public school?
Which really disturbs you most?
—The Bible Friend

18 “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.

Right from the start we see that being friends with God will help us endure the worlds hate.
WE also see that being a friend of the world is an enemy to God.
I told you it was going to get messy tonight.
John is talking about our organized society that is hostile to God because Satan has power over it.
Remember the world tried to kill Jesus at birth with Herod.

19 The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.

The word Hate or hated is used 8 times in 5 of these verses.
You need to know that Jesus is plainly saying here, “The world hates you.”
One of the reasons it hates you is because now your different.
It doesn’t take long when you decide to get clean and go around them old friends, its uncomfortable. You begin to ask yourself…is this what Im about? The best part is God can use that disgust of who you used to be as a means of distancing you from the old crowd.
See you have left that kingdom of darkness and God has transplanted you into his kingdom as his son.
You have a new purpose.
joy, purpose, hope, and love. You now have certainty, truth, and a standard for life.

Persecution

20 Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you. 21 They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the one who sent me.

The world hates you because you are associated with Jesus.

Hate the Son, Hate the Father

But now that the Light has come, those who willfully reject it have no excuse. The revelation in Jesus and by Jesus is so tied to the Father that to hate Jesus is to hate God (cf. ).

22 They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Anyone who hates me also hates my Father.

22 They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Anyone who hates me also hates my Father.

Before Jesus’ coming people might have pleaded ignorance as an excuse for sin (cf. ).

24 If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my Father.

How many of you know what a therapeutic community is?
Its built on holding eachother accountable. The community is the agent of change. IT only functions well when they hold each other accountable by being a brothers keeper and confronting the wrongs they see each other doing.
Ezekiel 3:16 ESV
And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me:
If your lazy or fearful about holding others accountable…we call that laying in the woodwork.
Where are all my fellow woodworkers at? That was me at first, my first time in prison.
In fact I got kicked out of treatment for a lack of therapeutic gain.
Well, me and The Holy Spirit are about to ruin your ability to be a lazy christian…your Welcome!!!

A Watchman for Israel

16 After seven days the Lord gave me a message. He said, 17 “Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately. 18 If I warn the wicked, saying, ‘You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths. 19 If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me. 20 “If righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and ignore the obstacles I put in their way, they will die. And if you do not warn them, they will die in their sins. None of their righteous acts will be remembered, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. 21 But if you warn righteous people not to sin and they listen to you and do not sin, they will live, and you will have saved yourself, too.”

Prophecy Fullfilled

In verses 24-25-He is talking about the rejection of who Jesus really was.
The Jewish nation should have honestly confessed, “No one could perform the miraculous signs You are doing if God were not with Him” (3:2).
But the nation as a whole rejected both Jesus and the Father because in their sins they loved darkness rather than light (3:19).
The nation thought it was serving God in rejecting Jesus (16:2–3) but in reality it was serving Satan (8:44).
Sin is basically irrational. Their hatred of Jesus was without any rational cause which also fits the pattern of hatred for righteous people, as seen in those who hated David (; ; ).

25 This fulfills what is written in their Scriptures*: ‘They hated me without cause.’ 26 “But I will send you the Advocate*—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me. 27 And you must also testify about me because you have been with me from the beginning of my ministry.

You know when I think about the opposition and hatred in the world it gets discouraging.
Sometimes I wonder whats the use? People wont change so why witness?! Why try?
But I usually talk myself out of feeling that way because God has gave me passion. I have seen what he brought me from.
We cannot escape or be silent these days friends.
Lack of witnessing has become too common.
The words of Jesus encouraged his disciples just like it should encourage us today.
He promised us The Holy Spirit.
As JEsus pointed to the Father,
The HOly Spirit points to JEsus.
Holy Spirit is sent from the Father.
As the Counselor (cf. 14:26; 16:7), He presents God’s truth to the world. The Spirit is sent from the Father (cf. 14:26), just as the Son was sent from the Father.
Yet this mysterious work of the Spirit is not done in isolation from the church.

Yet this mysterious work of the Spirit is not done in isolation from the church. The apostles were to bear witness to the facts that they came to know: You also must testify. As the apostles witnessed, the Holy Spirit persuaded, and people were saved. The same combination of human obedience to the divine command () coupled with the witness of the Spirit is needed in every generation.

So whats it going to be friends?
Will you escape giving witness? Will you stand by idle as the mothers and fathers in our generation leave their kids behind?
Will we continue to stand by idle when babies are born into addiction and teenagers OD on heroin?
Or will you take a step of boldness and witness to that circle of influence Gods placed you in?
He has the perfect people in mind for you to witness to if you just allow that process to occur.
All you gotta do to witness is share with others how JEsus changed your life.
If your like me, when you see Gods grace and mercy in your life, you cant help but shout it from the rooftops!
But you have to have that great exchange. You have to trade in that old you and let God do something amazing inside you.
It can happen tonight.
