INTRODUCTION:

1. Each piece of the Armor of God is important.

Acts 20:26–27 NKJV
26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.
Ez
Ezekiel 3:17–19 NKJV
17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: 18 When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.
Ezekiel 3:17 NKJV
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:

A. The whole armor is needed to fight the spiritual war.

Ephesians 6:11–12 NKJV
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

B. The Helmet of Salvation is an important part of the Armor of God.

Ephesians 6:17 NKJV
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

1. If one is a Christian, salvation is the reward, but in order to have salvation, one must...

2. In order to have Salvation one must...

Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

A. Put on the Helmet of Salvation (Plan of salvation).

B. Wear the Helmet of Salvation (Live the life of a Christian).

C. Keep the Helmet of Salvation on (Stay faithful).

BODY:

1. PUT ON THE HELMET OF SALVATION.

A. This helmet is not as easy as putting on a hat; it must be done God’s way.

Matthew 7:21 NKJV
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

1. If one is going put on the Helmet of Salvation, one must know HOW to put it on.

A. The people on the Day of Pentecost asked this very question, desiring to know how to put on the Helmet of Salvation.

Acts 4
Acts 4:12 NKJV
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Acts 2:37 NKJV
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

B. Earlier in Peter’s message, he told them, “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Acts 2:21 NKJV
21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’
Acts
1. In order to put on the Helmet of Salvation, one must know how to call upon the name of the Lord.
Acts 4:12 NKJV
12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

C. Peter’s answer to their question:

Acts 2:38 NKJV
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2

D. What prompted their question?

Acts 2:37 NKJV
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
1. What did they hear?—They heard the Gospel preached to them.
Romans 10:14 NKJV
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
Romans 10:17 NKJV
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
2. What did the Gospel do to them?—Cut them to the heart.
Acts 2:37 NKJV
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
Acts 2.

E. Peter’s answer to their question, “What must we do?” was two-fold.

1. Repent
Luke 13:3 NKJV
3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
Acts 17:3 NKJV
3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.”
2. Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
Mark 16:15–16 NKJV
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Romans 6 NKJV
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. 20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Peter 3:21 NKJV
21 There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Galatians 3:27 NKJV
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

F. What was their response to Peter’s answer?

Acts 2:41 NKJV
41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
Acts 2.

G. In this conversion account on the Day of Pentecost, all five steps of the Gospel plan of salvation are present.

1. They heard the message and believed it.
Acts 2:37 NKJV
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
2. They repented of their sins and confessed Jesus as Lord.
Acts 2:38 NKJV
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
3. They were baptized.
Acts
Acts 2:41 NKJV
41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

2. After all of these steps were done, they finally had put on the Helmet of Salvation.

Acts 2:47 NKJV
47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

2. WEAR THE HELMET OF SALVATION.

A. After the helmet is put on, it must then be worn.

1 John 1:7 NKJV
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1. Living a Godly life is wearing the Helmet of Salvation.

1 John 2:6 NKJV
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

A. Keeping God’s commandments is living a Godly life.

Luke 18:18–20 NKJV
18 Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”
Matthew 22:37 NKJV
37 Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
Luke 18.18-

B.

John 14:15 NKJV
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

B. The ungodly, who are not willing to keep the commandments of God, will not have the protection of the Helmet of Salvation.

1 Corinthians 6:9 NKJV
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,

3. KEEP THE HELMET OF SALVATION ON.

A. The Helmet of Salvation must stay on till death.

Revelation 2:10 NKJV
10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

1. One can take the Helmet of Salvation off.

Galatians 6:1 NKJV
1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

A. In order to be restored, one must first have been saved.

Revelation 22:18–19 NKJV
18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Rev

B. In order to have his part in the Book of Life taken away, he must first have had a part of the Tree of Life.

Romans 11:20–22 NKJV
20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.
Rom 11.

C. Being able to continue in His goodness suggests that you might not continue, and to be cut off suggests that you were once a part of something and then were cut off.

1 Timothy 4:1 NKJV
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

D. In order to depart from the faith, one must have been in the faith at one point.

CONCLUSION:

1. One must put the helmet on, wear it, and keep it on in order to have salvation.

A. Therefore, there are three questions that must be asked.

1. Have you followed the gospel plan of salvation to put the helmet on?

2. Are you living a Godly life to wear the helmet?

3. Will you take it off and lay it aside when it suits you, or will you keep it on till death?
