God our helper…
1. Is on his children’s side
a. Verse 1 and 2… repeated…
b. People rose up against… angry, trying to prey on you…
c. God is on our side…
d. What does this mean…? God is for us, not against us…
e. Sometimes we think that means we need to prove our self to God for him to be on our side; if I was just obedient then God would be on my side… if I was just perfect God would be on my side…
f. God is for his children… if you are his child he is on your side, if you misbehave – he is still on your side
g. Correction and discipline means God is still on your side
h. Trials you’re going through, God is still on your side
i. Sometimes we think if my life is not going well, God is not on my side or God is against me… or we think my life is going well, therefore God is on my side…
j. God is not your enemy when you are his child – even when you sin as his child
k. What determines God being on your side is what Christ has done for us…
l. If God was not on your side… then all would be lost… verse 3, 4, 5…
2. Didn’t surrender us to the enemy
a. Verse 6
b. You and I are not some prey of a wild beast… prey of people
c. God has not surrendered us to the enemy… do you have enemies?
d. Blessed be the Lord!
e. What Christ has done is not surrendering us to anything, so that we are not being taken down by sin, by death, by people who are anger with us, who come against us, who try to prey on us…
3. Made a way for our escape
a. Verse 7
b. Our escape… risen above the people who are angry with us, who are against us
c. Metaphor of bird, snare of the fowler, snare is broken – broken by Jesus
d. Happens through Jesus, may not happen in our circumstances
e. Example of martyr …
f. We have escaped… past tense
g. Russian friends, Siberian Miracle, beaten and thrown in the snow bank, naked, left to die and they did not…
h. Declaration – Our help is in the name of the Lord
